Job Title: Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)
Description:
This is a part-time position working 5 hours per day, $20.00 per hour, with 188 paid days per school year. Paid days will be pro-rated if hired during the school year.
Purpose of Job:
With ongoing training and support, SLPAs supplement the provision of designated speech-language services to students and perform other tasks as prescribed and directed by a supervising speech-language pathologist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works cooperatively with members of the multi-disciplinary team under the direct supervision of a certified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).
- Conducts speech-language screenings following specified screening protocols provided or developed by the supervising SLP.
- Provides speech-language therapy or interventions to students as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Performs pure-tone hearing screenings without interpretation.
- Reports data and therapy notes to the supervising SLP.
- Documents student responses to therapy activities and tasks related to established goals objectives pursuant to the IEP.
- Assists the SLP as needed and permitted in the testing protocol during student assessments.
- Prepares and/or develops therapy plans in collaboration with the certified SLP.
- Assists with clerical duties as directed by the supervisor of Exceptional Children Services.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times, keeping accurate records pertinent to the program for exceptional children.
- Undertakes continuing professional study in the education of exceptional children in teaching methods related to this field.
- Plans a program of study in collaboration with the certified SLP that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to maturity and interests of students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of planning.
- Supports the program of study using various instructional techniques, media, and technology.
- Assesses progress of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Recognizes potential learning disabilities of students and seeks assistance of qualified professionals.
- Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, facilities, and confidentiality of records.
- Performs other duties assigned by the SLP, maintaining ethical and practice standards.
- Signs or initials treatment notes or signs alongside the supervising SLP on IEPs.
- Attends IEP meetings in the presence of the supervising SLP when requested.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Maintains a standard of performance and conduct as required by state, local board of education, and community expectations.
