Surgical Tech

POSITION OVERVIEW: (non-exempt)

Surgical Technologists are allied health professionals who are part of a team providing surgical care to patients.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Successful graduation of a program meeting the minimum requirements defined in the core curriculum for Surgical Technology (CAAHEP accredited)
• Experience preferred

ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Reports to Perioperative Manager, Perioperative Assistant Nurse Manager

DIRECT REPORTS:

None

POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of basic patient care concepts.
• Demonstrates application of the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner that provides for optimal patient care in Peri-Op and Endoscopy under conditions that maximize patient safety.
• Demonstrates basic surgical case preparation.
• Demonstrates ability to scrub and uses knowledge and expertise to anticipate and provide components for all basic and advanced cases.
• Demonstrates ability to maintain Peri-Op and Endoscopy supplies, equipment, instrumentation, linen and inventories and reprocessing to facilitate invasive and diagnostic procedures.
• Assists with surgical specimen management.
• Cleans, restocks, checks outdates, documents and accomplishes other assignments on a routine basis.
• Demonstrates responsible behavior and provides safe and effective conduct as a member of the healthcare team.
• Attends all required meetings and inservices.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Works in a well-illuminated, climate-controlled environment
• May come in contact with hazardous chemical or treatment modalities
• Possibility exists of exposure to communicable diseases
• Involvement in inpatient care may result in unavoidable work-related illness or injury
• Work environment is comfortable, with minimal exposure to physical hazards
• Moderate to loud noise environment when machines/equipment in use
• Involvement in checking in/moving of supplies may result in unavoidable work-related injury
• Must be constantly alert for patient/family emergency situations
