What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Tech position at Jefferson County Health Center?
POSITION OVERVIEW: (non-exempt)
Surgical Technologists are allied health professionals who are part of a team providing surgical care to patients.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful graduation of a program meeting the minimum requirements defined in the core curriculum for Surgical Technology (CAAHEP accredited)
- Experience preferred
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reports to Perioperative Manager, Perioperative Assistant Nurse Manager
DIRECT REPORTS:
None
POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrates knowledge and practice of basic patient care concepts.
- Demonstrates application of the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner that provides for optimal patient care in Peri-Op and Endoscopy under conditions that maximize patient safety.
- Demonstrates basic surgical case preparation.
- Demonstrates ability to scrub and uses knowledge and expertise to anticipate and provide components for all basic and advanced cases.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain Peri-Op and Endoscopy supplies, equipment, instrumentation, linen and inventories and reprocessing to facilitate invasive and diagnostic procedures.
- Assists with surgical specimen management.
- Cleans, restocks, checks outdates, documents and accomplishes other assignments on a routine basis.
- Demonstrates responsible behavior and provides safe and effective conduct as a member of the healthcare team.
- Attends all required meetings and inservices.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Works in a well-illuminated, climate-controlled environment
- May come in contact with hazardous chemical or treatment modalities
- Possibility exists of exposure to communicable diseases
- Involvement in inpatient care may result in unavoidable work-related illness or injury
- Work environment is comfortable, with minimal exposure to physical hazards
- Moderate to loud noise environment when machines/equipment in use
- Involvement in checking in/moving of supplies may result in unavoidable work-related injury
- Must be constantly alert for patient/family emergency situations
