The Community Engagement Module Lead (SO) is responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategic public education and outreach campaigns aimed at reducing wildfire risk and enhancing community resilience. This role involves aligning initiatives with program goals to increase public awareness, promote sustained wildfire preparedness, and encourage mitigation actions. The Module Lead supervises and mentors a dedicated team of Community Outreach and Education professionals, empowering them to serve as effective catalysts for local risk reduction efforts. Through strong leadership and collaboration, the Community Engagement Module Lead drives meaningful community engagement to foster long-term wildfire resilience.

  • Cultivates, develops, and fosters relationships with neighborhood organizations, community groups, nonprofits, businesses, and partners to expand participation in community events.
  • Coordinates, collaborates, and partners with HOAs, community groups, fire districts, nonprofits, utilities, businesses and schools for engagement opportunities to prepare citizens to adapt to inevitable wildfire.
  • Coordinates and implements public education and outreach program campaigns and activities aimed at engaging residents and partners to reduce wildfire risks.
  • Utilizes various methods and communication platforms to engage and empower residents and communities to implement effective wildfire risk reduction strategies and enhance internal and external communications.
  • Develops and maintains social media content and platforms aimed at understanding wildfire risk and methods to reduce risk.
  • Coordinates, creates, and manages engagement mechanisms such as video production, telecommunications, photography, and web content.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of messaging and marketing strategies across communication tools and platforms.
  • Creates and tracks project budgets, maintains complete and accurate documentation of communication and marketing campaigns.
  • Oversees online marketing activities for messaging on various platforms including website, social media, e-newsletters and videos.
  • Engages local media in learning opportunities to promote science-based wildfire risk reduction understanding and actions.
  • Supervises staff in area of responsibility. Administers and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conducts performance evaluations and communicates short- and long-term goals and objectives. Submits personnel records and reports as required by the county. Assists and advises subordinates as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, education, marketing, public relations, or closely related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of public information, media relations, public relations and communications.
  • Strong and effective writing, managing content, engaging storytelling
  • Knowledge of basic fire behavior.
  • Knowledge of basic vegetation management related to wildfire.
  • Knowledge of defensible space principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of wildfire mitigation best practices.
  • Knowledge of promotional and marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of newsroom procedures.
  • Public Information Officer (PIO) training or certification through NWCG.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience.
