Job Title - International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator

Supervisor: Principal and Magnet School Program Director

Job Goal:

  • To serve as coordinator of the IB PYP Programme for Jefferson County Schools

  • To provide an educational environment designed to help students succeed academically in accordance with system philosophy, goals and objectives.

  • To implement an effective educational program for the designated grade level and subject area(s) using the designated course of study, appropriate materials and resources, and best instructional practices.

  • To serve as a student advocate, role model, and professional resource for parents, the community, and the school system.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

  • Valid Alabama teaching certificate.

  • Three (3) years successful experience as a classroom teacher

  • Ability to meet the suitability for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of the IB Programme.

  • Ability to plan and organize effectively.

  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.

  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, including, but not limited to, students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.

  • Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.

  • Ability to use and facilitate the use of technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.

  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.

  • Coordinates teacher schedules and assignments.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, intervention strategies, school improvement plans, and effective professional development delivery techniques aligned with the Primary Years Programme.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of current educational research and best instructional practices aligned with the Primary Years Programme.

  • Participates in and/or leads professional growth and development activities for the purpose of improving instruction, including staff meetings, in-services and staff development activities as required or assigned.

  • Interprets and uses data (including but not limited to standardized and other test results) for instructional planning and IB Primary Years Programme evaluation.

  • Assists in providing effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the IB Primary Years Programme.

  • Develops and implements appropriate class and activity schedules to meet the needs of IB Primary Years Programme students and faculty.

  • Develops and publishes calendars of events, reporting, submission, and assessment as required for a successful IB Primary Years Programme.

  • Coordinates effective professional development for IB Primary Years Programme teachers.

  • Coordinates student registration and student activities as required by the IB Primary Years Programme, including PYP Exhibition requirements.

  • Coordinates and supervises all needed communication and reporting between the school system and the IB Primary Years Programme governing body.

  • Monitors classroom instruction for the IB Primary Years Programme.

  • Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for faculty, staff and students.

  • Assist with student recruitment and marketing for the IB Primary Years Programme.

  • Assist with application processing.

  • Prepares reports, presentations, publications, or rosters as assigned.

  • Attends meetings, trainings, seminars, and workshops as required.

  • Attends and assists school system activities, events, ceremonies, and conferences as needed.

  • Responds to inquiries, requests, and concerns in a timely and positive manner.

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal laws.

  • Maintains and submits required magnet program inventory, grant reports and records as applicable, and correspondences in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Identify and research potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and corporations that align with the organization’s mission and programs.

  • Uses effective collaboration, skills to work as a productive team member.

  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.

  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.

27. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state Law.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
