Qualifications
- Knowledge and Experience: Understanding of basic custodial practices, including the operation and care of standard cleaning equipment and tools such as mops, brooms, vacuums, and floor-care products.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform essential custodial tasks that involve standing for extended periods, lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing, working on ladders, and safely lifting items up to 50 pounds.
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs, comfort, and dignity of older adults.
- General Cleaning: Clean and sanitize furnishings, equipment, and floors using appropriate cleaning solutions and disinfectants.
- Dusting: Dust and dust‑mop windowsills, blinds, furniture, and equipment on a regular schedule.
- Restroom Maintenance: Scour and polish sinks, toilets, urinals, and mirrors. Mop restroom floors daily and as needed. Monitor and address restroom odors.
- Restroom Supplies: Replenish soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, and other disposable supplies.
- Wall Cleaning: Wash walls as needed to maintain cleanliness and appearance.
- Room Setup: Assemble and dismantle tables, chairs, and other furnishings as required for programs and events.
- Team Collaboration: Work cooperatively with staff, members, and volunteers, responding to concerns and requests as needed.
- Safety Monitoring: Identify and report safety hazards or facility deficiencies to the Senior Center Coordinator.
- Safety Equipment Checks: Inspect safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, and report issues promptly.
- Minor Maintenance: Perform basic repair tasks and limited grounds maintenance as assigned.
- Cleaning Solutions: Prepare and measure cleaning solutions according to established guidelines.
- Trash Removal: Collect and dispose of trash daily. Wash wastebaskets and garbage containers as needed and reline them with plastic bags.
- Floor Care: Periodically polish floors using a buffing machine, if applicable.
- Other Duties: Perform additional center‑related tasks assigned by the coordinator.
- Wash exterior windows and screens as needed to maintain a clean and welcoming facility appearance.
- Perform other related duties as required to support the overall operation of the Senior Center.
- Assist with stripping and refinishing floors when necessary.
