Full Job Description

Busy Metairie Ambulatory Surgery Center seeking detail-oriented Surgical Technician to join our team. As a Surgical Technician, you will assist surgeons, registered nurses, and other members of the surgical team in the operating room. Our ideal candidate is a team player who can complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy. Must be a team player.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain the sterile field throughout surgical procedures
• Assist the surgical team with scrubbing in and putting on gloves and masks
• Pass surgical instruments to surgeons as needed during surgical procedures
• Hold retractors and complete additional tasks at surgeon’s request during procedures
• Handle tissue specimens obtained for laboratory analysis
• Count sponges, rags, needles, and instruments before, during, and after procedures
• Following surgeries, wash and sterilize all medical instruments and equipment
• Clean, organize and restock the operating room following surgical procedures
• Supply fluids for use during operations, including blood, and saline
• Prepare patients for surgical procedures
• Offer technical assistance to the surgical team: surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists

WORK SHIFT

Monday-Friday, NO NIGHTS, HOLIDAYS OR WEEKENDS. NO CALL.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Summary of the Job:
Surgical Technologist functions as members of the surgical team in the role of a scrub person. They work under the supervision of a RN to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and surgical procedures maximizing patient safety and sterile technique with the application of AORN and professional standards.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible to prepare and handle the instrumentation, supplies, and devices necessary for the surgical procedure.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology. One (1) year Operating Room experience. Current BLS certification. Good communication skills and able to make decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Surgical Technology Certification (CST) preferred.

Physical Demands:
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
Physical Effort required:
Constant (67%-100%) - reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing
Frequently (34%-66%)- pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying

Occasionally (1%-33%)– stooping, crouching
