Jefferies is seeking a high-performing Governance and Sustainability Junior Associate (AVP) to support the firm’s corporate governance and sustainability programs, with a focus on legal, compliance, and disclosure-related work. This role supports board and committee processes, regulatory and proxy disclosures, sustainability reporting, and corporate records, and works closely with Legal, Compliance, and senior management, including regular interaction with C-suite executives.
This role requires exceptional organizational skills, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure financial services environment.
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and comfortable managing competing priorities while serving as a trusted partner to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Support governance and sustainability data collection, documentation, and reporting processes.
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of governance and sustainability disclosures, including proxy statement materials, sustainability reports, and regulatory or stakeholder questionnaires.
- Support board and committee operations, including meeting logistics, agendas, board materials, minutes, and related approvals.
- Maintain and update governance documents, policies, committee charters, corporate records, and entity documentation.
- Track director information, committee assignments, attendance, and key governance deadlines.
- Coordinate with Legal, Compliance, Finance, Risk, HR, Internal Audit, and other internal teams to gather accurate and timely information for due diligence and other requests.
- Manage Investor Day registrations and support the Investor Day event team.
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to senior executives, including complex calendar management across multiple time zones.
- Coordinate domestic and international travel arrangements for the Board of Directors including itineraries, visas, and expense reconciliation.
- Prepare, edit, and format presentations, correspondence, and reports with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Manage meeting logistics, including scheduling, agendas, materials, conference room setup, and virtual meeting coordination.
- Serve as a key point of contact between executives and internal/external stakeholders, screening calls and communications as appropriate.
- Handle highly confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
- Assist with ad hoc projects, event coordination, and departmental initiatives.
- Track expenses and process invoices in compliance with firm policies.
- Anticipate executive needs and proactively resolve administrative issues before they escalate.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting senior executives in investment banking, financial services, or a professional services environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and document management capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex calendars and high-volume scheduling across time zones.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, integrity, and ability to manage confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate or comparable corporate/legal experience.
- Experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or corporate secretarial/governance function.
- Familiarity with public company disclosures, proxy statements, or compliance-driven environments.
- Exposure to sustainability reporting frameworks or related regulatory requirements.
- Experience interacting with senior executives and supporting board-level processes.
- Exposure to investment banking, capital markets, or asset management environments.
- Ability to work extended or flexible hours as business needs require.
Location: New York Salary Range: $90,000-$110,000
