ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

McLain Community High School is an alternative education campus that provides curriculum and instruction that supports the educational needs for non-traditional students. There are four learning communities within McLain: Two youth programs ? Youth and RISE; our adult diploma program, and GED. Each learning community offers a unique experience for students starting in 9th grade and into adulthood.

While McLain has a long history of supporting students who have been deficient in credits and have not completed their high school requirements for graduation, we have also created grade-level programs that meet the needs of students entering high school for the first time and those that are returning to high school after several years. We are very proud of all of our schools and programs and their ability to focus on the student socially and emotionally, as well as academically.

Environment and experiences are hallmarks of the McLain model. Our school provide environments that are smaller and more intimate, where students take classes with the same set of students and the same set of teachers each day. Class size is usually built on a smaller 20-1 student to teacher ratio. Weekly/bi-weekly experiences in the community allow students to learn about the world and about what they could aspire to in the future. Students can take part in CTE pathway course work, community service, job exploration, cultural enrichment and outdoor activities.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position is temporary, 1 year only, with the potential to extend in the event that additional grant funds are received.

The McLain Community High School Career Advancement Program for Adults is a transformative initiative connecting motivated graduates to high-wage jobs. Focused on breaking barriers to employment, the program provides essential skills, a diploma/GED, and career development support. Targeting three in-demand industries (healthcare, construction, and advanced manufacturing), the program addresses the significant obstacle posed by the lack of a diploma/GED for accessing high-wage occupations. In the face of Colorado's low adult education funding, the program serves a vital role in enhancing job choices and career advancement for adults seeking entry-level positions. For students at McLain Community High School, the Career Advancement Program for Adults proposes innovative enhancements, including recruitment strategies, personalized support for retention, collaboration with industry partners for postsecondary readiness, and the use of scholarships as incentives for skill development. These innovations aim to boost enrollment, improve outcomes, and empower students to pursue their chosen career pathways.
