We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Material Handler to keep our production floor moving. In this role, you’ll be the backbone of our molding department managing resin mixes, prepping machines for changeovers, and ensuring our inventory stays accurate. Overview:
The Material Handler will monitor machines throughout their shift to provide necessary resins and raw materials while moving finished goods to the takeaway zone. The ideal candidate will work with minimal supervision, taking the initiative to manage machine changeovers and material mixing to ensure the production floor never skips a beat.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Check each machine to know what jobs are running and what materials are needed.
- Responsible for mixing plastic resins and colorants according to the Material Pick List.
- Responsible for Machine changeovers including:
- Purge barrel of old material
- Remove all resins from last job
- Clear area of regrind or scrap parts
- Clean machine area of resins
- Manage the grinding of scrap:
- Oversee grinding of scrap
- Ensure regrind is properly labeled with type and weight
- Update Regrind Inventory Matrix to add/remove materials as needed
- Pull material (including resins, boxes, bags, and any ancillary items listed on Job Material Picklist) from inventory and mix according to BOM.
- Bring mixed material to machines and fill hoppers as needed.
- Perform inventory transactions to apply material to jobs.
- Move finished goods to the Takeaway Zone. Perform inventory moves on Infor for finished goods moved to the Takeaway Zone.
- Alert department Manager to machine, material, or personnel problems.
- Keep mixing area clean and organized. Sweep up any material spills immediately.
- Keep the Molding Department clean and organized.
- Assist operating machines to cover operator break times when needed.
- Take out trash daily.
- Alerts manager of any continuous improvement ideas and help with deployment and communication.
- Works with Inventory Manager as needed to help with picking jobs.
- Works with shipping clerk when needed to put away finished or delivered goods into warehouse locations.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Requires a minimum of six months’ molding operation experience (manufacturing in a plastic injection molding operation).
- Must have knowledge of resins and materials, particularly with respect to hazardous properties, drying times and temperature.
- Must be able to do basic reading, writing and math.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements for the position including but not limited to the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to thrive in a fast- paced environment.
- Ability to multitask and reprioritize.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Must be self-motivated and able to complete tasks with little assistance.
This position is for 1st shift (7am-3pm) Monday through Friday 40hrs a week plus overtime as necessary.
