Position Summary:
Position Title: Assistant Teacher (Assistant Group Supervisor)
Location: 383 Rolling Ridge Drive, State College, PA 16801
Pay: $14.00 per hour
Full-time: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:30pm
Summary:
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting in implementing an on-going educational program that contributes to the care, growth and development of the children in an assigned classroom(s) and throughout the center.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan learning activities within established classroom centers and with the Lead Teacher.
- Implement prepared lessons and activities in small and large group settings throughout the program day.
- Assist students with tasks/activities to present or reinforce learning concepts.
- Assist students with managing all parts of the program day, including: transitions, meals, toileting/diapering & washing hands, structured activities, behavioral expectations, play & appropriate use of materials and equipment, clean-up and nap/rest time.
- Support progress monitoring efforts by participating in observations and data collection.
- Provide before and/or after school daycare coverage as dictated by schedule.
- Engage parents/family members upon drop-off and pick-up during daycare and class time and work with the Lead Teacher to maintain and expand positive communication.
- Engage children throughout the program day to enhance their growth and development. Staff must be prepared to circulate and engage multiple children throughout the day unless working with an assigned student or group.
- Reinforce Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) goals, Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives and treatment plans for all children in care, as applicable.
- Create solutions for children with and without disabilities to engage in positive social exchanges throughout the program day.
- Assist in managing the food subsidy menu and meal count requirements, including preparing healthy snacks and meals, grocery shopping and ordering meal-related supplies.
- Assist in keeping classrooms, small outdoor play areas and care giving/shared spaces clean, orderly and free of hazards.
- Provide support to the Lead Teacher in completing classroom clerical duties
- Participate in annual Open House event to welcome prospective families.
- Maintain all standards of the Keystone S.T.A.R.S. quality initiative program
- Adhere to Department of Public Welfare (DPW) regulations to support programs in maintaining compliance with state mandated childcare requirements. Requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 40 pounds. A two-person lift is required for weights greater than 25 pounds, or mechanical devices are available for assistance.
- Required to walk, bend, squat, reach and move about the majority of the time; may involve sitting for brief periods.
Educational & Experiential Requirements:
- HS diploma, or GED, and 2 years' work experience with children required.
- Prior experience in working with children (ages birth to 8) preferred.
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse History, Department of Human Services FBI Clearance, and National Sex Offender Registry results are required.
- Passing of a physical examination and TB test is required.
