What are the responsibilities and job description for the Superintendent position at JDR Development Company Inc?
Superintendent – Custom Home, 360 Via La Paz | Greenbrae, CA
JDR Development Company | Greenbrae, CA | Full-Time | Project-Based
About the Project
JDR Development Company is the general contractor on a high-end custom home at 360 Via La Paz, Greenbrae, CA — a technically demanding, architecturally distinctive new build in Southern Marin. The project features:
- Complex hillside foundation with deep excavation, soldier pile shoring, and geotechnical oversight (Miller Pacific Engineering)
- Stillwater Dwellings prefab panel system — CNC-cut, pre-framed wall panels and full window/glazing package craned and tilted into place
- Custom glulam structural elements, cantilevered decks, floating stair, and high-specification finishes throughout
- Owner-architect collaboration with a hands-on, detail-oriented client who expects a fast-paced, well-managed site
This is not a tract home. It's a custom, architecturally driven project that requires a Superintendent who understands complex concrete, unconventional framing systems, and the standard of finish that Marin clients expect.
The Role
You'll be the boots-on-the-ground leader for the 360 Via La Paz project from mobilization through punch list. You'll own the daily operation of the site — coordinating subcontractors, enforcing quality and safety, managing schedule, and serving as the primary field representative for JDR.
This role reports directly to JDR's Project Manager and company principals.
What You'll Be Responsible For:
Site Operations & Scheduling
- Drive daily and weekly site operations across all trades
- Maintain and enforce the project schedule; identify and escalate float risks early
- Sequence work effectively around the Stillwater panel delivery and crane operation
- Coordinate geotech observations (Miller Pacific) during excavation and foundation work
Subcontractor Management
- Direct and coordinate all subcontractors on site — civil, concrete, framing, MEP, finishes
- Run daily huddles and weekly trade coordination meetings
- Hold subs accountable to scope, schedule, and quality standards
Quality & Safety
- Enforce JDR's quality standards from foundation to finish
- Maintain a clean, safe, and OSHA-compliant site at all times
- Conduct inspections at critical milestones; coordinate city and geotech inspections
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain daily logs, RFI tracking, and photo documentation
- Communicate clearly with the PM and project principals on progress, issues, and decisions
- Flag scope gaps, plan discrepancies, and potential cost impacts in real time
Client & Stakeholder Interface
- Represent JDR professionally with the owner/client on site visits
- Coordinate with Stillwater Dwellings' on-site representative during panel installation
What We're Looking For:
Required
- 5 years of experience as a Superintendent or Lead Foreman on high-end custom residential or comparable commercial projects
- Direct experience with complex concrete foundations — hillside cuts, shoring, or retaining walls
- Ability to read and interpret full plan sets including architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings
- Strong subcontractor management skills and a reputation for running a tight, respectful site
- Valid California Driver's License and reliable transportation
- Comfortable working in Marin County with knowledge of local inspection and permitting processes (or a fast learner)
Preferred
- Experience with prefab or panelized framing systems (Stillwater Dwellings, Bensonwood, or similar)
- Familiarity with glulam and engineered timber structural assemblies
- Experience on hillside or challenging terrain projects in the Bay Area or Wine Country
- OSHA 30 certification
Compensation & Structure
- Compensation: Competitive day rate or salary commensurate with experience
- Classification: W-2 employee or 1099 — open to discussion depending on fit
- Location: On-site, 360 Via La Paz, Greenbrae, CA 94904
- Start: Target mobilization Q2/Q3 2026 (subject to permit and preconstruction timeline)
