The position combines practical mechanical engineering with the coordination of complex electrical layouts. You will translate electrical schematics and control requirements into mechanically sound enclosure designs, verify bus bar routing and phase spacing, and ensure all components fit within enclosure constraints. The role requires attention to detail, comfort working with incomplete or legacy drawings, and the ability to translate multiple inputs into coordinated, manufacturable designs. Responsibilities and Duties Develop electrical and mechanical designs for switchgear, power distribution, and control systems Create accurate 3D CAD models from electrical schematics and mechanical requirements Verify bus bar alignment, phase spacing, supports, and clearances within enclosures Coordinate EPLAN layouts with 3D CAD models to ensure electrical intent is mechanically feasible Identify and resolve dimensional conflicts between bus bars, breakers, CTs, wiring gutters, and enclosure features Evaluate designs for manufacturability, installation access, serviceability, and maintenance clearance Produce production-ready mechanical drawings from 3D models Support design revisions based on manufacturing feedback, FAT results, and field conditions Coordinate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and field service teams Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field 3 to 6 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably with switchgear or electrical enclosure design Demonstrated experience with EPLAN (or equivalent design software), electrical schematics, and electrical-mechanical coordination Demonstrated experience reconciling multiple drawings and reference documents into a coordinated design Required Skills Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and assembly creation Experience with switchgear or MCC (NEMA Class 891) systems Solid understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and mechanical fit Experience working with sheet metal and enclosure-based designs Ability to interpret electrical schematics, bus bar routing, and three-phase systems Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally Preferred Skills Deep familiarity with low- or medium-voltage switchgear design standards (NFPA, IEEE, NEC) Familiarity with bus bar systems and power equipment layouts Hands-on experience with EPLAN (or equivalent design software) Experience with CAD platforms such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD Exposure to ERP systems such as NetSuite Location Hackettstown, NJ Travel Requirements Approximately 10% of travel is required.
