What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Electrical Engineering position at JCW Group?
About the Opportunity
We are partnering exclusively with a well-established MEP consulting engineering firm in Costa Mesa, CA on a pivotal leadership hire. The firm has a strong and growing portfolio across K-12 education, healthcare, and civic facilities — and is seeking a senior electrical engineering leader ready to step into a defining role at exactly the right time. This is not a typical department head position. It comes with a clear path to Principal, meaningful equity opportunity, and genuine strategic influence — with the autonomy that larger firms rarely offer.
Responsibilities:
Technical Delivery
- Oversee electrical system design: power distribution, lighting, low-voltage systems, and fire alarm
- Lead complex healthcare and education projects — renovations, campus expansions, and ground-up construction
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, Title 24, and healthcare-specific standards
- Set and maintain high technical and documentation standards across all projects
Senior Client Advisory
- Serve as the primary technical contact for key healthcare and education clients
- Lead design meetings, provide construction-phase support, and drive high-level project discussions
- Build long-term relationships through responsiveness, clarity, and trusted expertise
Team Leadership
- Direct and mentor a focused team of engineers and designers (2–3 direct reports)
- Establish accountability, technical rigor, and a collaborative culture
- Build scalable processes that support consistent, high-quality delivery
Firm Strategy
- Partner with leadership on strategy, pursuits, and operational improvements
- Contribute to expanding the firm's healthcare and education presence
- Help elevate how the department operates as the firm grows
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred)
- PE license strongly preferred
- 10 years of progressive electrical engineering experience
- Strong background in healthcare and/or K-12 education projects
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and mentoring engineers
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and industry-standard electrical design tools
- Confident communicator — able to lead both internally and externally
Salary : $150,000 - $225,000
