Our client, a credit union in the Boston area, is looking for a Commercial Loan Underwriter. This person will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting auto loans, personal loans, credit card and other unsecured credit products. This role reports directly to the Chief Lending Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Loan Review: Evaluate consumer loan applications by analyzing credit reports, income, and financial information to determine creditworthiness.
- Risk Assessment: Assess risk levels and make approval or denial recommendations based on established guidelines.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all applicable lending laws and regulations; stay current on regulatory changes.
- Communication: Work with branch staff and members to gather information and clearly communicate underwriting decisions.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions in line with regulatory requirements.
- Support: Assist staff with underwriting insights and respond to member inquiries professionally.
- Reporting: Prepare periodic reports for management, the Credit Committee, and the Board as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field or equivalent working experience
- 2 years’ experience underwriting consumer loans in a credit union or banking environment.
- Strong understanding of consumer lending practices, credit analysis, and risk assessment.
- Familiarity with loan origination systems and financial software.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
