GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Medical Assistant II provides advanced clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and patients. This role involves a combination of patient care, administrative duties, and the management of complex tasks in the medical office or clinical setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Clinical Support:
- Assist in the preparation and examination of patients, including taking vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight).
- Administer medications or injections as prescribed by the physician.
- Prepare and manage medical equipment and instruments.
- Prepare and maintain patient records, ensuring all data is accurate and up to date.
- Sterilize and disinfect medical instruments and equipment.
- Assist in minor surgeries or procedures, maintaining sterile techniques.
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule patient appointments, manage patient flow, and coordinate with other healthcare providers.
- Handle medical billing and coding tasks, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
- Verify patient insurance details and obtain necessary pre-authorization for treatments or procedures.
- Process patient intake forms and ensure accurate medical records.
- Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, procedures, and medications.
Patient Communication:
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding appointments, test results, and follow-up care.
- Address patient inquiries, providing information on health services and assisting with any concerns.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Maintain and ensure compliance with health regulations, safety protocols, and the standards of the healthcare facility.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
- Perform JCAHO and OSHA related duties as assigned
- Other duties as assigned by the Clinic Site Manager
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent or an AA Degree.
- Requires 3-5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited MA Program with phlebotomy being a part of the program (CMA or equivalent) preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and patient care practices.
- Proficiency in medical software, office equipment, and electronic health records (EHR).
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, and work effectively in a team.
