The JCC of Central NJ is a non-profit agency whose mission is to educate, enrich and empower our community – from generation to generation. The JCC offers educational, recreational, fitness & wellness, cultural and communal programs and activities to people of all abilities and all stages of life.
Summary of Position:
The JCC is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented individual to be part of our Facilities team ensuring our facility is clean and safe for our members and staff. This is a year-round, full-time overtime non-exempt position who reports to the Facilities Director. Weekend and evening shifts are available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the overall appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the facility daily
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing of facility spaces in accordance with established custodial standards and procedures
- Provide daily custodial services within the Early Childhood wing to ensure a clean and healthy environment for children, families, and staff
- Assist with the cleaning and upkeep of high-traffic areas including entrances, grounds, lobbies, locker rooms, fitness center, gymnasium, etc.
- Perform basic building maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, minor repairs, and reporting maintenance issues to supervisors
- Assist with snow removal upkeep, including exterior of building, entrances and walkways as needed
- Respond promptly to radio calls and facility-related requests from staff
- Secure and close the facility during assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when scheduled
- Support room setups and breakdowns by moving equipment, furniture, and materials as needed for programs and activities
- Read and interpret setup diagrams to ensure rooms are arranged accurately for events and programs
- Transport, pull, and push chair racks, tables, staging, and other event equipment as required
- Arrange and reset meeting rooms, classrooms, and program spaces to support daily operations
- Ensure event spaces are clean, organized, and ready for use before and after programs or events
- Assist staff with last-minute setup adjustments during programs, events, or community gatherings
- Support facility needs during large events, including monitoring spaces, assisting with transitions between events, and maintaining cleanliness
- Attend departmental meetings and training sessions as requested by the Facilities Director or management team
- Follow all safety procedures, including OSHA guidelines, when handling cleaning chemicals, equipment, and facility systems
- Work extended evening and weekend hours periodically for large and/or after-hour events
- Other relevant tasks as assigned
Requirements:
- Prior custodial experience preferred
- Understanding and application of OSHA protocols
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform sustained physical labor including lifting, pushing, and moving items up to 75 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods of time
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and perform physical movements such as bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment, tools, and basic facility equipment
- Ability to shovel snow and assist with outdoor maintenance when required
- Must work in both indoor and outdoor environments and be exposed to various cleaning chemicals and environmental conditions
