Structural Designer II

The ideal candidate for this role will live in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area. Must reside in the United States. JBW participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.


JBW Consulting Engineers is a multidiscipline firm providing expert engineering and design services across the United States and Canada. Since establishing operations in Minnesota, JBW has grown to include offices in Montana and Wyoming, serving clients in the industrial, energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors.


Our expertise spans mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering, with a strong focus on industries such as mining, wood products, grain, nuclear waste, and oil and gas. Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations

  • Adhere to the core values of Relationships, Communication, Solutions, Technical Proficiency, Quality, and Responsiveness as defined by JBW.
  • Must have an entrepreneurial attitude and be willing to tackle different tasks as they arise.
  • Work directly with Engineers to complete new designs and modifications to existing facilities.
  • Incorporate engineering changes to evolving designs for fast moving projects.
  • Coordinate as necessary across a variety of building design disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and architectural.
  • Prepare layouts; provide input for design proposals and drawings; and analyze and resolve design and production issues.
  • Knowledge of building codes, federal transportation regulations, development of details, and the organization of construction documents.
  • Become familiar with and apply accepted design/drafting methods and concepts, engineering and design principles, terminology, and structural framing basics.
  • Create detailed drawing packages for bidding and construction.
  • Create and revise 3D models and detailed drawings using Revit, and AutoCAD 3D.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate design and drawings archives and revision history.
  • Must be willing to work in daily collaboration with other JBW team members, and a variety of industrial clients.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to entry level engineers and designers on project work.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications.
  • Build new and maintain existing relationships with clients, vendors, and external resources.
  • Perform site visits safely that range from 1-5 days, sometimes requiring travel (all expenses included). Travel is expected to be less than 10% annually but can vary in the short term based on project needs.
  • Other job duties as needed.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD 3D, BIM360, Navisworks, Bluebeam & Point Clouds.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu software.
  • Experience working in industrial settings such as refineries, mines, power plants, etc.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and codes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Excellent leadership, writing, and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations, reports, and proposals to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple small projects simultaneously.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or AAS degree in structural design.
  • 5 years of relevant experience.

Salary : $65,000 - $80,000
