Summary
The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of complex construction projects by managing technical documentation, coordinating field operations, and assisting with overall project management. Responsibilities include preparing, tracking, and managing submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings; coordinating materials procurement, delivery, and inventory; and supporting the Superintendent with field logistics and installation sequencing. The PE builds and monitors project schedules, assists with change order preparation and cost tracking, and ensures quality control documentation is complete and accurate. Additional duties include managing pay application preparation, daily job reporting, coordinating with the AP/AR department for billing and payment processing, and maintaining effective communication with the project management team, subcontractors, suppliers, and owner representatives. The Project Engineer is expected to proactively identify and resolve coordination issues, maintain compliance with contract requirements and specifications, and contribute to the timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of each project.
This position requires critical thinking and the individual selected must have a high aptitude for learning and retention rate. JBrennon requires qualified candidate to have at least three years of continuous work experience in the construction industry as an assistant project manager or better. Applicants without construction experience will not be considered or reviewed. Upon hire, JBrennon expects the new hire to hit the ground running with the requisite knowledge to fall in line with company processes and procedures but understand and know how to execute all of the responsibilities listed below without assistance.
Responsibilities:
- Support on-site and office project management to ensure safety, quality, schedule, and budget goals are met.
- Generate RFIs, Submittals, Procurement, and Change or Management Logs.
- Manage and track RFI, submittal, procurement, change order, and shop drawing processes to maintain contract compliance and timely approvals.
- Assist in preparing, reviewing, and issuing change orders and maintaining associated cost documentation.
- Coordinate material procurement, delivery schedules, and inventory to support uninterrupted field progress.
- Support the Superintendent with daily field coordination, work sequencing, and resolution of technical issues.
- Maintain accurate and organized quality control and project documentation in compliance with project specifications.
- Build and monitor project schedules, identify potential delays, and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Prepare and process owner billings and project-related accounting items in coordination with AP/AR.
- Facilitate clear communication between the project management team, subcontractors, suppliers, and owner representatives.
- Assist with project bid / estimation efforts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or Construction Engineering preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree (total seven (7) years of industry experience in a PM or Project Engineer role).
- 3 years of experience in heavy civil, industrial, municipal, or water/wastewater construction as a Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, or Assistant Project Manager.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and working knowledge of; experience with scheduling software (MS Project) a plus.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Familiarity with industry codes, safety regulations, and quality control standards for industrial/water treatment work.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite
- Skilled in Microsoft Project
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on proactive problem-solving.
Salary : $70,000 - $85,000
