Journeyman Field Service Representative

Location: Joint Base Andrews, MD

Position Summary -

Provide installation, integration, and training of Counter Unmanned Arial System radars. Position requires formerly trained US military operator and/or maintainer proficiencies. Previous Government test support is desired but is not required. Selected individuals will be trained at the OEM facility for 4-6 weeks.  After the initial training period, Field Engineers will be expected to provide sustainment, over-the-shoulder-training and coaching to military units in receipt of Radars and integrated Air Defense systems.  A Field Engineers is required to provide hands-on support for the radar systems and integration at each various locations. 

Job Description -

Acts as the OEM’s engineering representative with overarching responsibility for implementation and optimization of hardware and/or software products and multi-vendor systems at customer sites including oversight and integration support of existing hardware, software, network configurations and new system initiatives for all sites within area of responsibility. Installation of software maintenance releases or hardware upgrades including the oversight of the installation process and test procedures to diagnose and resolve product performance problems at installation.  Identifies areas requiring product improvement and approves/implements upgrades and hardware or software engineering change orders.   Provides feedback and customer support regarding product performance problems and suggested solutions which may require product exchanges or more complex problem solving.  Prepares and conducts special reports and presentations pertinent to company products and services, field operations or other applications. Plans, prepares and conducts on-the-job training as required in support of the foregoing activities. May oversee a team of field service technicians and train, monitor, and otherwise assist lower-level service technicians. This job may include any aspect of field support, and is not limited to system hardware and software, PCs, networking/wireless networking, and diagnostics and programming of C-sUAS firmware/software.  

 Field Engineers will provide support services at US Air Force bases and must be able to provide:

• Over-the-shoulder training of gaining Units in the operation of the radar and limited Operator maintenance
• Maintenance of the Radar system to insure the required operational availability
• Supply chain operations in support of radar maintenance
• Collection and supply of all required data to support customer reporting requirements
• Reporting of any issues or concerns, and the collection of relevant lessons learned and technical capabilities/limitations  

Skills -

• Field Engineers are responsible for assisting more senior positions and/or performing functional duties under the oversight of more senior positions
• Troubleshooting and repair of failed systems
• Inventory control
• Interaction with customers and users for system configuration management and tracking 
• Spares management, stockage and storage
• Coordinate and acquisition of all required data to satisfy relevant military customer reporting requirements
• Respond to emergency requirements
• Assist other FSRs in the field as required
• Training of military Service and other gaining customers
• Brief senior military personnel on product capabilities 

Qualifications/Certifications -

• Position requires up to 3 years of experience and a BA/BS degree or 6-9 years of experience in lieu of a BA/BS degree  
• Network Plus certification (or similar education) 
• 2 years’ experience troubleshooting computer and network systems 
• Military technician, electronic technician or engineering education
• 2 years hands-on experience with radio frequency equipment 
• Experience working at US military bases and performing maintenance/repair of military systems is desirable
• Mechanical technician tasks and climbing on towers of up to 100 feet height is also required
• Experience in AN/TPQ-50, AN/TPQ-53, AN/TPQ36, AN/TPQ37 or other US ground-based, target detection radar system operations, fielding, supportability and maintenance is desired.
• Knowledge and understanding of radar theory, radar design, field testing, and electro-mechanical maintenance analysis, including troubleshooting, fault isolation, repair/replace techniques, and documentation. A working knowledge of Army logistics and supply procedures is desirable.
• Must be able to lift and/or move 50 pounds or more unassisted
• Field Engineers will also possess the ability to assist and provide input for development and publication of training, maintenance, and logistics publications and possess field engineering and equipment fielding experience in support of defense programs. Field Engineers will be asked to validate and make recommended changes to future operator manuals in support of the assigned radar system.
