About the Role
The Associate provides project management expertise and serves as a trusted advisor, leader, and representative of the firm. The Associate manages a variety of projects from concept to completion and is committed to the project’s success. While this Associate in the Field department may have specialized experience in one or more of the nine (9) specific services in Field, they will be responsible with others in the Field Department Leader (FDL) group for the success of the entire department, not just the personnel and/or services they are directly responsible for. The Associate works with Associate Partners and Partners to identify short and long-term strategic goals for staff development, firm marketing, administration, and office improvement while promoting JB&B’s core values. The Associate is involved with firm-wide initiatives, operations, and efforts to sustain and develop business at JB&B.
Overall Responsibilities
- Communicates with client counterparts about project deadlines, issues and deliverables
- Proactively assembles the project team to coordinate internally; manages communications with FDL other JB&B staff, Owners and Contractors as necessary
- Manages and leads in coordinating within JB&B design departments or third-party engineering firms
- Has advanced understanding of documentation control on projects including, but not limited to Owners Project Requirement (OPR) narratives, etc.
- Manages multiple Field service functions including: meetings, field activities and responding to Client inquiries of a project of cumulative amounts of 1M ft2 or more
- Develops and/or manages the performance of project schedules in overall project planning
- Accountable for team on time assembly and distribution of all pertinent project documentation including, but not limited to: observation reports, service-specific documentation, test reports and logs, etc. (as necessary)
- Reviews project documents including observation reports, deficiency reports (as necessary), etc. for proper technical language and descriptive narratives and confirms their distribution as per schedule
- Organizes relevant meeting information, dates, and milestones into meeting minutes; prepares agendas prior to each meeting
- Has advanced understanding of trade specific specifications and strives to improve them
- Completes large size projects from cradle to grave (cumulative amounts of 1M ft2 or more required); demonstrates consistent management of client through all phases of project
- Identifies design errors or omissions and writes and submits RFIs, or provides a recommendation to the design engineer to properly solve the issue
- Responsible for final review, completion, and distribution of final project summaries and reports
- Prepares technical letters and/or memos to address specific project design issues/challenges/code interpretations, etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited program
- Has experience managing a small team and a minimum of 5 years of experience
- Holds a professional certification title (LEED, CCP, CEM, PE, etc.)]
- Understands all trades scope of project
- Has advanced understanding of firm/team production capacity in establishing and maintaining project deliverables
- Has a working understanding of miscellaneous MEP design software tools, Field software tools (e.g. BlueRithm) and project financial tools (e.g.; Deltek)
- Has advanced understanding of Energy and Building Codes
- Has mastered understanding of documentation formats and content for each deliverable phase (ie: preconstruction, construction, turnover, and close out)
- Has advanced knowledge of how to troubleshoot various building-related issues
- Maintains affiliation with a major professional organization (BCxA, AEE, ASHRAE, USGBC, etc.)

Estimated compensation range: $122,000 - $140,000 base salary per year
