Responsibilities

• Safely operate school buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
• Follow all emergency response procedures for transportation, including emergency stop procedures and incident reporting.
• Assist students with boarding and disembarking, including wheelchair assistance and child-specific needs.
• Maintain discipline and manage student behavior to ensure a safe environment during transit.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure mechanical safety and cleanliness before each route.
• Respond quickly to traffic changes or road conditions, adjusting routes as necessary for timely arrivals.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear language and multilingual skills if applicable.
• Provide first aid or CPR when needed, demonstrating readiness for emergency situations involving children or passengers with special needs.
• Uphold all transportation safety regulations, including adherence to school policy knowledge and local/state driving laws.
• Perform heavy lifting when necessary for loading or securing equipment or mobility aids.

Qualifications

• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement required; experience driving school buses or transit buses is preferred.
• Proven experience working with children or in childcare environments; ability to manage student behavior effectively.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and safety regulations related to school bus operation.
• Strong communication skills; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
• First aid certification including CPR training; ability to respond swiftly in emergency situations.
• Mechanical knowledge of vehicle maintenance basics; ability to perform routine inspections and report issues promptly.
• Ability to lift heavy objects safely; physically capable of assisting passengers with mobility aids if needed.
• Familiarity with child discipline policies and behavior management techniques.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
