Position Overview
The Store Manager is responsible for the overall management of the ship store, overseeing inventory, staff development, marketing, and financial performance. This role ensures smooth operations, an engaging shopping environment, and a high level of customer satisfaction while driving sales and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management
- Oversee all daily ship store operations, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Manage point-of-sale operations, handle transactions accurately, and resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally.
- Maintain the store’s visual presentation, cleanliness, and organization to uphold marina and brand standards.
- Collaborate with marina management and assist with additional operational tasks or projects as needed.
2. Financial Management
- Develop, implement, and monitor the store’s budget, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, seasonal demand, and market trends.
- Analyze detailed sales data and key performance indicators to identify trends, adjust inventory levels, and make informed decisions for future growth.
- Maintain category-specific margins to ensure each product line contributes to the store’s overall profitability.
- Oversee accurate cash handling and daily reconciliation, ensuring all financial records are precise and up to date.
3. Inventory Management
- Manage and optimize inventory processes to maintain accurate stock levels and ensure high product availability.
- Implement efficient tracking and reporting systems to minimize waste, reduce shrinkage, and improve inventory accuracy.
- Coordinate with suppliers and distributors to ensure timely ordering, delivery, and restocking of ship store merchandise.
- Monitor inventory trends and adjust purchasing to align with seasonal demand and customer preferences.
4. Staff Training and Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program to equip team members with strong customer service skills, effective sales techniques, and in-depth product knowledge.
- Create and manage employee schedules to ensure proper staffing and smooth day-to-day store operations.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented environment that encourages accountability, confidence, and continuous improvement.
5. Marketing and Promotions
- Collaborate with the Corporate Marketing Director to develop and execute marketing strategies that drive store traffic, align with corporate goals, and maximize sales opportunities.
- Manage the store’s digital presence, including social media accounts, email campaigns, and online promotions, to engage current customers and attract new ones.
- Plan, organize, and execute in-store events, seasonal promotions, and community outreach initiatives to enhance brand visibility and customer loyalty.
6. Customer Relations
- Serve as the primary liaison for all customer interactions, addressing questions, concerns, and complaints with professionalism and focus on timely resolution.
- Build lasting relationships with customers, understanding their needs, preferences, and boating lifestyle to better tailor merchandise, services, and promotions.
- Gather and analyze customer feedback to identify trends, enhance store operations, and guide marketing, inventory, and service strategies
7. Compliance and Security
- Ensure the store operates in full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and safety standards.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews of inventory, cash handling, and operational procedures to identify and mitigate risks.
- Respond promptly and effectively to any security or compliance issues, documenting incidents and taking corrective action as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including stocking, lifting, and standing for long periods, while maintaining energy and focus.
Work Environment
- Flexible schedule required, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak marina seasons or special events.
- Retail setting with regular direct interaction with customers, requiring professionalism, clear communication, and a strong customer service focus.
