What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President of Operations position at Jay Group?
The Vice President of Operations owns operational performance across Jay Group's entire fulfillment network — more than 770,000 square feet across Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Texas, including the launch of our newest 250,000 sq ft Houston facility. This is a network-level executive role: the VP sets the operating strategy, standards, and rhythms that make four buildings in three time zones perform as one system, and leads the Site Directors who own each building day to day. Location: Lancaster PA (Corporate HQ) with regular travel to all facilities.
The role carries full accountability for service (on-time shipping, dock-to-stock, inventory integrity in partnership with Finance), cost (labor productivity, engineered standards, gross margin contribution), safety, and scalability. The VP is a builder as much as an operator — the mandate is to install the playbooks, engineering discipline, and leadership bench that let the network double without doubling its problems.
What you'll own:
Network strategy and capacity planning across every site — translating growth plans into operational readiness before demand arrives. A disciplined operating cadence of daily pulses, weekly site reviews, and monthly performance deep dives, holding Site Directors accountable to a consistent KPI framework spanning on-time shipping, dock-to-stock, inventory accuracy, productivity, quality, and safety. The operational launch of our Houston facility — layout, systems readiness, leadership hiring, and workforce ramp — delivered on time and on budget without disrupting service elsewhere. Labor planning and gross-margin performance in partnership with Finance, and the Process Engineering function driving standards and continuous improvement across the network. A seat on our Executive Leadership (EOS) team, partnering closely with Client Services and Sales to make sure the floor delivers what's sold.
What you bring:
15 years of progressive fulfillment, distribution, or 3PL operations leadership, including 5 years leading multi-site operations at a senior level. Proven P&L or gross-margin ownership in a high-volume, WMS-driven environment (Manhattan WMS experience a strong plus). A track record of launching or expanding facilities — greenfield experience strongly preferred. Deep knowledge of engineered labor standards and industrial engineering principles, and experience building leadership benches with disciplined operating cadences (EOS experience a plus). Ability to travel 25–40% across the network, with heavier travel during the Houston launch.
Multi-client 3PL or omnichannel fulfillment experience (B2B and D2C), exposure to automation evaluation and deployment, and familiarity with BI tools like Qlik or Power BI are all a plus.
If you're ready to lead a growing, multi-site fulfillment network and build the systems that scale it, we'd like to hear from you.
