Madera Quarry is seeking an experienced and safety-driven Hot Plant Operator to oversee daily operations of our asphalt production plant. This is a non-union position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting asphalt hot mix plants to ensure consistent, high-quality production. This role is critical to supporting our materials operations in a fast-paced quarry environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor asphalt hot plant systems to produce high-quality asphalt mixes
- Control plant functions including material feed, blending, heating, and load-out operations
- Adjust plant settings to meet mix design specifications and production targets
- Coordinate with quality control to ensure product consistency and compliance with specifications
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on plant equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and operational issues to minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate production records and reports
- Ensure proper inventory levels of raw materials, fuels, and additives
- Follow all safety protocols, MSHA regulations, and company policies
- Communicate effectively with plant personnel, truck drivers, and supervisors
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating an asphalt hot plant (drum or batch plant)
- Strong understanding of asphalt production processes, mix designs, and plant controls
- Experience with plant automation systems and controls preferred
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs
- Knowledge of MSHA safety standards and best practices
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Flexibility to work extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends during peak season
- Ability to operate heavy equipment and support operations
Work Environment & Schedule
- Work is primarily performed at Madera Quarry in an outdoor plant environment
- Operator must be able to float between Madera Quarry and Le Grand Asphalt plant locations
- Position is primarily year-round, with workload dependent on production demand
- Schedule varies seasonally:
- High season: Long hours, up to 7 days per week – project dependent
- Off-season: Reduced or flexible scheduling

Physical Requirements
