Transportation Supervisor
Summary: Plans, directs, and coordinates all activities of drivers and dispatchers by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Understanding of routing for drivers. Contributes input and planning on routes, checks efficiency.
- Responsible for terminal and dispatching activities, communication operations, and assignment of drivers to obtain optimum use of facilities, equipment, and drivers.
- Responsible for ensuring the vehicles are clean and meet maintenance standards and requirements.
- Point of contact for leasing operations for vehicles. Reports services issue to leasing company. Tracks all variable expenses to include mileage and additional rental costs.
- Responds to and resolves customer complaints. Uses appropriate level of authority to discipline driver and take immediate action concerning customer complaints and issues.
- Trains drivers on merchandise or freight handling, preparing pallets with freight, locating freight on the truck and the route in which they are responsible.
- Responsible for discipline of employees in relation to employee work performance.
- Initiates investigations into causes of accidents, interviews operators concerned to determine responsibility, and takes actions on findings or submits reports to Operations Manager. Takes appropriate action when drivers fail to report accident. Report all accidents to the insurance broker.
- Checks trip and dispatch logs for conformance with schedules.
- Dispatches replacement vehicles involved in accidents or mechanical failures.
- Directs preparation and retention of dispatch and vehicle operations records and reports.
- Required to oversee operations on the AM and PM Shifts.
- Organizes freight from incoming trucks to optimize cross dock and rerouting operations
- Unloads and/ or supervises unloading of transfer trucks and stage items in appropriate area when needed.
- Makes calls through the day to track progress of drivers
- Checks in on all activities on the Saturday Shift.
- Maintain mileage records for taxes and leasing company.
- Ensures all drivers including new hires, are road tested and meet DOT requirements and complete side by side training as well as load securement training.
- Responsible for meeting requirements for state and federal agencies such as OSHA, DOT
- Trains staff on proper use of Hand Trucks and any other tool.
- Assume proper payment or dismissal of all summons issued to the company. Reduce all summons issued.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation industry. A minimum of 3 three years of management experience. A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience. College degree desirable but not required.
- Computer proficient to include excel, word, power point, TMS systems, GPS tracking, and web-based applications
Certificates and Licenses:
Possess Valid Driver’s License. Forklift Certification
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises 15 or more employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the role and employee handbook and professional conduct requirements.
