Position Overview:
This position will provide a welcoming environment for guests at Jasteka Cultural Center during open visiting hours and programs, as well as providing for safety of guests, staff, and the art and property of Jasteka. This includes greeting guests, answering questions, accompanying guided tours, and supporting program facilitators, as well as monitoring guests for safety and security concerns and responding to inappropriate behaviors.
Key Responsibilities:
· Serve as a guest service representative / gallery attendant, providing staffing and facilitation for public drop-in visits, tours, programs, and events at Jasteka, representing the Center in a professional and inclusive manner.
· Greet guests, providing a welcoming, informative atmosphere. Stay up-to-date on Jasteka artworks and programs to engage guests and answer their questions. Open and close the building, restock materials and tidy as needed.
· Support safety and security for our team, guests, and art by staffing the galleries and monitoring and responding to safety and security issues. Be aware of emergency and security procedures and implement them when necessary.
· Support the Jasteka team on the presentation of public programs for audiences of various ages and backgrounds. Duties include: preparing materials and spaces, greeting guests and supporting their needs during programs, ensuring safety of guests and art during programs, engaging guests in programs and hands-on activities, collecting attendance data, tidying spaces, and other needs.
· Keep lobby, front desk, galleries, and staff areas clean and orderly.
· Answer telephones and support marketing and communications needs.
· Research the collection and add to artwork Study Guides.
· Provide administrative support.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience needed to develop and
operate the Mission and Vision:
· Commitment to the educational mission and to creating a welcoming, inclusive community environment.
· Customer service experience.
· Written and verbal communication skills for interacting with a variety of public audiences in a business context.
· Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
· Motivated to learn about aspects of contemporary art.
Salary:
· Salary: $18 - $20 per hour, based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and education.
· Less than 20 hours per week, starting with 8-10 hours per week. Will require flexibility, including evenings and Friday and Saturday daytime.
· No benefits.
