GENERAL SUMMARY
Under general supervision, supports and provides mental health counseling services for students and families. Works collaboratively with district staff to plan and integrate services to meet the needs of students district-wide. Provides crisis intervention, prevention strategies, and training for staff and families. Reports to the Director of Student Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)
Provides appropriate and timely mental health counseling and crisis intervention services.
Establishes and communicates a referral process for student mental health services.
Prepares for emergencies and responds quickly with appropriate support.
Provides developmentally appropriate individual and group counseling services.
Utilizes mental health assessments to develop treatment plans with measurable goals.
Documents all counseling sessions and maintains accurate and confidential records.
Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
Provides training for staff and parents on mental health awareness and intervention strategies.
Collaborates with community agencies to support student mental health needs.
Participates in multidisciplinary meetings including MTSS, IEP, and 504 teams.
Provides crisis response support during critical incidents.
Attends professional development to remain current on best practices.
Interacts with students, families, and staff in a respectful and professional manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field; valid South Carolina licensure (LPC, LISW-CP, LMFT) or eligibility; experience working with school-age children preferred; knowledge of child and family development.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of mental health counseling practices including prevention, assessment, and intervention; knowledge of state and federal regulations; understanding of documentation and reporting requirements; knowledge of child welfare laws and procedures.
Skills/Effort:
Ability to interpret and apply regulations; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain confidential records; ability to respond effectively in crisis situations; ability to collaborate with stakeholders.
Working Conditions:
School/office environment; local travel required; occasional extended hours for crisis response; physical activity may include lifting up to ten pounds.
