Role Description The Commercial HVAC Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Nashville, TN. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop units, chillers, boilers, air handlers, and related controls. Daily tasks include performing diagnostics, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, completing preventive maintenance, and ensuring systems operate efficiently and safely. The technician will read and interpret plans and schematics, coordinate with project managers and other trades, document work performed, and comply with all safety and building code requirements. This role may also involve responding to service calls, supporting project start-ups, and assisting with equipment upgrades or retrofits on active construction sites.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in commercial HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair, including experience with common system types and components.
- Strong ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using appropriate tools, meters, and troubleshooting methods.
- Working knowledge of HVAC controls, thermostats, and basic building automation systems, with the ability to adjust and optimize settings.
- Solid understanding of applicable building codes, safety standards, and best practices related to HVAC and commercial construction environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals, and to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with supervisors, project managers, clients, and other trades on-site.
- Relevant technical training or certification in HVAC (trade school, apprenticeship, or equivalent); EPA refrigerant handling certification preferred.
- Previous experience as a commercial or industrial HVAC technician, ideally within construction or facilities environments.
- Capability to work safely with power tools and equipment, lift and move materials as required, and perform tasks in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the Nashville, TN job site; ability to pass any required background or employment checks.
