As an Associate Counselor at our Perinatal Treatment Center, you'll guide and support clients, help develop residents in our dynamic living facility, and work autonomously in a specialized environment. Your duties will include providing emotional support, developing treatment plans, and ensuring compliance with medical standards. By touching the lives of pregnant women and those in crisis, you'll play a crucial role in their journey towards recovery and well-being.

This is a Monday - Friday 6:45am - 3:15pm shift, temporary, with a strong possibility of moving to full-time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Support: Assist in conducting assessments to understand the mental health needs of clients during the perinatal period.
  • Therapeutic Assistance: Support therapists in providing individual and group counseling sessions, including setting up materials and managing session logistics.
  • Crisis Response: Help with immediate support and intervention during mental health crises under the supervision of licensed professionals.
  • Education and Resources: Provide clients and their families with educational materials about perinatal mental health issues and coping strategies.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare providers, such as obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers, to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Record Keeping: Assist in maintaining accurate and timely clinical records in electronic health systems.
  • Support Group Facilitation: Help organize and facilitate support groups for new parents.
  • Community Outreach: Participate in community outreach and education efforts to raise awareness about perinatal mental health.
  • Customer Service: Provide cheerful and responsive customer service from new client orientation through residential stay.
  • Activity Coordination: Direct clients to participate in healthy, recovery-oriented activities during non-structured time.
  • Individual Therapy: Provide therapy sessions to clients experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, often through secure video conferencing platforms.
  • Group Therapy: Lead group therapy sessions to support clients in a communal setting.
  • Treatment Plans: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to each client’s needs.
  • Progress Notes: Maintain detailed progress notes and documentation for each client session.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
  • Education and Support: Offer educational resources and support to clients and their families about perinatal mental health.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention in cases of perinatal mental health crises.
  • Other duties as assigned: Embrace new challenges and opportunities as they arise, contributing to a dynamic and evolving work environment
Requirements:

Education: Typically, a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional certifications or coursework in mental health, counseling, or a related field can be beneficial.

Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in mental health or perinatal care, is often preferred. Experience working with diverse populations and understanding the unique challenges of the perinatal period is valuable.

Skills:

Experience with a broad range of individuals in a professional manner.

Good conflict resolution and communication skills.

Customer service skills.

Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.

Bilingual skills preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in basic computer duties, including data entry, using electronic health records (EHR) systems, and managing email communications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar software is required.

Certifications: Registration with the State Drug and Alcohol certifying body (RADT, SUDRC or ACCBS). Certifications in perinatal mental health or related areas can enhance qualifications. Relevant certifications might include those from organizations like the Postpartum Support International (PSI) or the American Association of Perinatal Mental Health.

Other Requirements: A valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and access to a car may be required. Employees must reside in California and be able to be onsite daily.
