Pastry Cook/Baker
Janjou Patisserie is a boutique artisan bakery located in boise, Idaho.
We are looking for an experienced pastry assistant or baker to prepare a variety of desserts, pastries or other sweet goods. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in culinary arts with a passion for sweet and savory delicious creations. They must adhere to health and safety standards to provide clients with the best possible serving. The goal is to enhance customer satisfaction so that we can maintain and expand our clientele.
Responsibilities
- Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, tarts, breakfast pastries etc. following traditional and modern recipes.
- Decorate pastries using different creams, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting
- Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget
- Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking and baking,
- Maintain a lean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards
Skills
- Proven experience as Pastry cook, baker or relevant role is an advantage.
- Great attention to detail and creativity
- Organizing and leadership skills
- Willingness to replenish professional knowledge
- In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition
- Postivite energy and ability to move fast.
- Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking or relevant field - an advantage
As a Pastry assistant you will identify and select ingredients, prepare and mix doughs, cookies, tarts, pastries and confections. Each day you will mix a variety of items, while adhering to a predetermined mix schedule. We bake everything from scratch and use high quality ingredients. The responsibilities of the Pastry Cook are diverse and dependent on experience and will change as you grow and hone your skill set.
The Pastry assistant must thrive in a fast-paced work environment while adhering to cleanliness and sanitation standards for the entire kitchen and dish area. Most importantly the Pastry Cook takes pride in what they do and is a team player.
if you have the following we would love to have you in our team:
- 1-2 years of experience successfully working in pastry production, banquet production kitchen (or similar environment) is an advantage.
- Desire to help where needed and work as part of a team.
- Passion for baking with a keen eye for freshness, quality and cleanliness.
- An appetite for learning (and delicious pastries).
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts. Weekend availability is a must. Shifts range from early morning to early afternoon start times. (not necessarily working every weekend)
- Familiarity working with large planetary and spiral mixers and comfortable mixing large batches of doughs multiple times a day.

Shift:
Day shift: 7:30 am -4:30 pm. Tuesday through Sunday. (Closed Mondays - Weekend availability is a must).
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $20.00 per hour
