Janet’s Cafe & Bakery, in the Westover Hills neighborhood of Richmond, VA, is looking to add another cook to our team.

Currently hiring for 30-40 hours, with experience preferred, but not required.

Shifts start early, often 6am and are typically 10 hours long.

This is a very fast paced, high volume work-environment. Multi-tasking, teamwork, organization, ability to work fast under pressure are expected. In addition, being able to a handle high volume of items and a larget line, working multiple stations for extended periods is expected.

Janet's is a bakery and café, dedicated to serving freshly baked goods, specialty coffee, breakfast, lunch, and warm hospitality. Pay rate is hourly tips.

As a cook, you’ll be responsible for preparing and executing our breakfast, lunch and brunch menu with consistency, care, and efficiency. From breakfast and lunch, to sandwiches, salads, bowls and plates, you’ll help us deliver a memorable experience to every guest.

Interview process with entail an in person interview as well as a paid "stage/shadowing" day.

We are looking for cooks who can help keep standards high. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, motivated, organized, detailed oriented, patient, responsible, mature, and hard-working.

Schedule & Pay:

• $21-$25/hr pay rate is hourly tips
• Weekend availability required (Both Saturday & Sunday)
• 30-40 hours
• Schedule: can be flexible. 8-10 hours shifts, 3-5 days a week
• Early Morning shifts (6am / 7am)
• Closed on all major holidays and for other short stretches
• No evening service / day time hours only

Responsibilities

• prepare food in accordance to recipe and standards
• prep work, line work, expo and cleaning / dish duties
• understand and know entire menu, ingredients and how to prepare them
• execute completion of menu items on the line in an efficient time
• ensure quality standards of food prepared and served
• communicate and collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service
• Help to maintain clean, organized storage and stocking procedures through daily upkeep and weekly deep cleaning tasks.
• Keep station and environment clean in accordance to health / safety standards and expectations
• Inventory and ordering assistance

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous experience in a professional kitchen preferred but not required
• Solid understanding of kitchen operations and food safety practices
• Ability to multitask & work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Strong attention to detail
• Clean and organized individuals
