Position Summary

The Junior High Football Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the junior high football program, including planning and conducting practices, managing games and tournaments, developing athletes' skills, and promoting good sportsmanship and teamwork. The coach will serve as a positive role model for student-athletes and represent the school with integrity and professionalism.

Essential Functions:

Junior High Co-Head Coach Duties:

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and training sessions.
  • Develop and implement strategies for game play and skill development.
  • Teach fundamental football techniques and rules to student-athletes.
  • Promote sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and leadership among players.
  • Manage team equipment and uniforms.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, school administration, and athletic staff.
  • Serve as a mentor and advocate for students both on and off the field.

General Responsibilities:

  • Know and follow all district policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are explained and communicated to the athletes.
  • Enforce all policies and emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Represent the school and program in a positive way at all times.
  • Maintain a safe environment for athletes at all times. Ensure that medical and safety requirements are followed.
  • Travel on the bus with the team both to and from events.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourage student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
  • Follow state, conference and school regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Follow any other instructions and to perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head Varsity Football Coach, Principal or Activities Director or the appropriate administration.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior coaching or playing experience; high school or college preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the sport, including rules, techniques, and strategy.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and connect with high school student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Must meet all school district and state requirements for coaching and pass required background checks.

Working Conditions:

  • Practices and games are typically held after school hours.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks such as demonstrating drills, setting up equipment, and supervising outdoor activities.
  • Required to travel for all games.

Physical Requirements:

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision and distance vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and Exposure to bodily fluids; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
