WORKING SUPERVISOR

DISTINGUISING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An employee in this class is responsible for the efficient accomplishment of a wide variety of manual tasks in keeping municipal equipment, buildings, grounds, recreational areas and streets cleaned and functionally maintained. The work is performed according to general practices and policies set by superiors, but wide leeway is allowed for the use of independent judgment in organization of own work and in planning and directing the work of subordinates.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Supervises and participates in the following work activities:

Performs daily floor cleaning including stripping and waxing using mechanized equipment;

Sweeps and mops floors;

Collects and disposes of trash;

Washes windows, light fixtures and other building items;

Makes minor repairs to mechanized cleaning equipment and performs preventive maintenance; Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment;

Mows grass, trims shrubs, rakes leaves and performs other laboring tasks in the upkeep of grounds; Cleans streets, access roads, parking areas, culverts and basins;

Clears brush and beautifies recreation areas;

Cleans stream banks and lake shores of debris;

Performs minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs on municipal buildings and recreational areas;

Paints interior and exterior wood, metal, and masonry surfaces to include preparation of surfaces;

Keeps inventory of cleaning supplies and requisitions replacement products;

Keeps records of activities or accidents and makes simple reports; Inspects cleaning and maintenance work of subordinate employees; May load, unload, receive, transport and check delivery of goods.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of building cleaning methods, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of the principles involved in the use of mechanized cleaning equipment; Working knowledge of building, grounds and recreational area maintenance and repair techniques and practices; some knowledge of the repair and preventive maintenance of standard mechanized cleaning equipment; Skill in the use of hand and power tools; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to operate a motor vehicle and small motorized vehicles; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to plan tasks in logical sequence; mechanical aptitude; initiative and resourcefulness; dependability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in building mechanical maintenance, grounds maintenance or building cleaning maintenance using mechanical floor cleaners.

SALARY: $17.39/Hour
