Cleaner II

This is technical cleaning work involving the operation of mechanized cleaning equipment in addition to the performance of routine building cleaning work. A person in this class works under the supervision of an employee of higher rank, but more discretion for the performance of individual tasks is allowed than in the case of a regular cleaner.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Performs daily floor care tasks involving buffing and stripping with mechanized equipment;

Cleans walls and ceilings with specially designed mechanical cleaning apparatus and erects scaffolding for access to areas needing cleaning;

Refinishes and waxes floors;

Sweeps and mops heavy usage areas such as corridors, lavatories, and stairways;

Washes windows and lighting fixtures as needed;

Changes light bulbs and lighting tubes as needed;

Makes minor repairs to mechanized cleaning equipment and performs preventive maintenance; Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment;

Collects and disposes of trash and garbage and empties waste baskets;

Washes blackboards, sinks and other fixtures;

Delivers cleaning supplies or other articles to work sites as needed; Takes soiled linens to an in-house laundry;

Washes drapes, curtains, and venetian blinds.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of building cleaning methods, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of the principles involved in the use of mechanized cleaning equipment; some knowledge of the repair and preventive maintenance of standard mechanized cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and stripping machines; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; willingness to perform routine cleaning and other manual tasks; ability to work well with others; thoroughness; dependability; physical condition to commensurate with the demands of the job.

Minimum qualifications:

One year of building cleaning experience.

SALARY: $16.66/Hour
