Position Title: Mechanic 1/ Mechanic Apprentice
Reports to: Shop Manager
Status: Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
Holds a basic knowledge of all heavy machinery, various types of vehicles and small equipment. Ability to assist with all tasks that are given. Understands basic uses of tools. Helps keep up with any paperwork or tracking on equipment that is being worked on.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Have a basic knowledge of how heavy machinery, various types of vehicles and small equipment operate and function.
- Has some tools for the job and keeps up with the cleanliness and organization of those tools as well as upkeep of JWC tools and organization of shop.
- Assist mechanic 2, 3 and shop manager with all tasks
- Eager to learn.
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment and vehicles that come into the shop for repairs
- Ensure all equipment and shop materials are safely and securely stored
- Ability to read and comprehend manuals.
- Ability to be able to work independently with assigned tasks
- Maintain a positive and proactive attitude towards the job and team members
- Adhere to all company policies
- Understand that ALL employees, including mechanics, are subject to labor work when required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Skills, Abilities, Knowledge):
- High school or equivalent
- Ability to handle equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Two years jobsite experience
- Ability to grade /- .03 with dozer/trackhoe
- Ability to analyze and problem solve
- Good decision-making skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The job is performed outdoors on multiple jobsites. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to travel (35%) therefore exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, and common transportation related elements is present. Work hours are Monday Thursday 7 am to 5 pm and Friday 7 am to 3 pm.
