Teen Program Director

James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn seeks a full time Teen Director who will be responsible for implementing a diverse out of school time program for middle school and high school youth. This individual will provide engaging opportunities that support leadership development, life & workforce readiness, academic success, healthy lifestyles, social-emotional growth, and career exploration. The Teen Director will be responsible for managing and growing the overall teen culture of the organization while fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where teens feel connected and empowered.

The Teen Director works Monday through Friday (with occasional weekend hours) from 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This schedule varies depending on the time of year, with alternative hours during school vacations and summer.

Primary Responsibilities

Recruit and Retain Teen Club Members

• Develop and implement a marketing strategy to engage more teens in the Clubhouse on a daily basis. Use social media, flyers, calendars, etc. to market programs and encourage regular participation.
• Develop outreach strategy to ensure at least 30% of Main Clubhouse members are teens.
• Maintain, manage and seek out new opportunities for collaborative partnerships with local schools and/or community organizations that assist with teen recruitment, retention and participation.
• Build meaningful relationships with members and families to encourage consistent participation and long-term engagement.

Program Oversight and Development

• Provide a variety of intentional programming opportunities that ensure teens participate in activities representative of all Club core program areas including: arts, education, leadership and life skills, sports, fitness and recreation, technology, and workforce readiness. Programming may take the form of daily activities, projects, and multi-week programs.
• Develop and facilitate daily activities, special events, projects, and multi-week programs that meet the interests and developmental needs of teen members.
• Develop opportunities for youth voice and leadership by encouraging members to provide input on programming and Teen Center initiatives.
• Develop and implement collaborative programs and events with staff members from other departments and community organizations as appropriate.
• Recruit and supervise program volunteers, guest speakers, and community partners who can offer relevant instruction, specialized programming, and mentorship opportunities to members.
• Participate in outcome measurement, program evaluation, and data collection processes and other evaluation programs to ensure programs are data driven, intentional and ultimately, successful and responsive to member needs.
• Support and maintain programs that engage teens socially, culturally, communally and intellectually and reflect the diversity of Club life, including: community service, education, and leadership.
• Create and maintain a culture of respect, belonging, inclusion, and positive youth development within the Teen Center.
• Manage and enforce effective guidance & discipline policies.
• Ensure that teen members are encouraged to participate in a variety of fun, engaging activities each day.

Leadership, Workforce Development, and College & Career Readiness

· Develop and implement leadership, workforce readiness, financial literacy, career exploration, and college readiness programming that prepares youth for future success.

• Develop and implement post-graduate exploration, career readiness, and job skills programming.
• Serve as advisor to leadership and service-learning clubs, including Keystone and other teen leadership initiatives.
• Coordinate program partners, volunteers, and consultants who can provide career exploration, leadership development, and specialized instruction.
• Provide regular (quarterly, at minimum) updates for program funders on the initiative’s progress.

Other Responsibilities

• Orient, train and supervise volunteers, minor employees, or part-time staff as assigned.
• Secure, organize, and maintain materials and equipment belonging to the Teen Center.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate.
• Travel to off site activities as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills Required

• Bachelors’ Degree in youth development, counseling, or related field required. Equivalent experience will be considered.
• Direct experience developing and facilitating a wide variety of programming and support services for teens.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate, mentor, and inspire youth and teens.
• Knowledge of trends in recreation activities, community service and leadership activities for teens.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Understanding the developmental needs of teenagers.
• Ability to work Clubhouse hours, especially with flexibility as seasons and services needs change (evenings required as well as occasional weekends).
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
