Primary purpose: To create a warm, safe environment that fosters a love for learning and promotes social-emotional well-being and academic growth; to use knowledge of student data and abilities to deliver lessons tailored to students’ learning goals; to build effective relationships with students and their families.
Responsibilities:
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
Teach foundational reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science according to Common Core and Massachusetts Curriculum Standards and students’ IEP goals
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to meet the needs of each student
Create an environment that is culturally responsive and conducive to learning, is age-appropriate and considers the interests of the students using a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, hands-on and play-based learning, discovery/center-based learning, etc.
Uses relationship building as the foundation for behavior management and utilizes restorative practices to address behavior concerns
Evaluates students’ academic and social growth; Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress
Works cooperatively with school team to collect and analyze data, observe and discuss best practices, plan lessons and collaborate to improve student outcomes
Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in fulfilling teacher evaluation procedures
Attend school sponsored activities (e.g., Open House) agreed upon by the building administrator and the faculty consistent with the teachers’ contract.
