James-Hawkins is expanding, and we're looking for an Assistant Property Manager who wants to grow with us. We're Montgomery's leading Housing Choice Voucher property management operation and MHA's top-recommended property manager, and we're just getting started.
This isn't a clock-in, clock-out job. For the right person, it's a launchpad. You'll get hands-on guidance from Brandon McIntyre, our Regional Property Manager and licensed REALTOR, on what it takes to build a real estate career and do it well. As we establish this market further, this role has serious room to grow into a full-time position based on performance.
Here's something most assistant roles can't offer: we hand you real estate leads. We regularly work with property owners who are on the fence about whether to rent their property or sell it. If you're licensed, those are real transaction opportunities coming your way.
What You'll Do:
- Assist the regional property manager as needed
- Show single family homes and apartments to prospective tenants throughout Montgomery and the surrounding areas
- Assist with move-in and move-out inspections
- Answer phones for prospective and current tenants
- Build and audit files as needed
What You'll Earn:
- $18 to $20 per hour, part-time W2
- Three weekdays a week, 10am to 5pm, with more hours available during peak season

- Real estate transaction leads for licensed team members
What We're Looking For:
- A real estate license, OR actively working toward one, OR willing to obtain one within 30 days of hire
- Reliable vehicle, valid Alabama driver's license, and current auto insurance
- Clean driving record
- Willingness to pass a background check
- Tech-forward and comfortable working across Google Workspace, Slack, Buildium, and ShowMojo, or able to pick up new tools quickly
- Strong phone presence and a genuine customer service mindset
- A dependable self-starter who works well without constant oversight and is ready to grow
- Discreet and professional with sensitive tenant and owner information
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not required
Experience in property management or leasing is a plus, but it's not required. We'll train the right person.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves walking properties, climbing stairs, and being on your feet during inspections. You should be comfortable with the physical demands of regular property visits.
