We are seeking a motivated and experienced Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer to join our Boston team and support the design and delivery of complex building projects throughout the state.


Position Summary

The Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer will be responsible for the design, coordination, and documentation of plumbing and fire protection systems for a variety of building types. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, experience working within multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced consulting environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas, and specialty piping systems
  • (Training can be provided) Design fire protection systems including wet pipe, dry pipe, standpipe, and pre-action systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documents
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, mechanical/electrical engineers, and external consultants
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, and construction administration activities
  • Perform code analysis and ensure compliance with local, state, and national codes including NFPA, IBC, IPC, and Massachusetts amendments
  • Support BIM/Revit modeling and interdisciplinary coordination efforts
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals during construction phases
  • Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, and technical quality control
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers as needed


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field
  • 5 years of experience in plumbing and fire protection engineering within an A/E consulting environment
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, IPC, IBC, and Massachusetts building codes
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD required
  • Familiarity with hydraulic calculation software and plumbing sizing programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively within project teams


Preferred Experience

  • Healthcare, laboratory, life sciences, higher education, or commercial high-rise project experience
  • LEED accreditation or sustainable design experience
  • Experience coordinating with contractors and commissioning teams
  • Familiarity with BIM 360 and cloud-based project collaboration tools
