Quality Manager

James G. Davis Construction (DAVIS)
Baltimore, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 6/4/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/3/2026

Our client, DAVIS Construction, is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to implement and lead quality management programs on its commercial construction projects. This full‑time role is ideal for a construction professional with strong field and technical experience who knows that great quality is driven through collaboration and coaching—not policing—and who thrives in a high‑accountability, people‑first environment.

DAVIS is one of the region's most respected 100% employee‑owned general contractors, known for its people‑first culture, operational rigor, and long‑term investment in its teams. The Quality department is young and growing, offering the rare chance to help shape tools, processes, and standards from the ground up.

As a Quality Manager, you'll partner closely with Operations teams across the full project lifecycle—from kickoff and planning through field implementation and closeout—to identify risk, drive quality plans, coach project teams and trade partners, and ensure work is delivered to DAVIS and contract standards. This is a hands‑on, highly autonomous role working day‑to‑day alongside the project team.

Location

  • On-site at a project in the Baltimore, MD area (approximately 2 years), then transitioning to HQ-based in Rockville, MD with frequent regional site visits
  • On-site visibility is expected while project work is active; the department supports flexible work arrangements based on project needs

What You'll Do

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve quality management systems across the project lifecycle
  • Evaluate project scope and assess risks to quality; lead project kickoff efforts to identify risk and assign quality‑focused roles and responsibilities
  • Lead implementation of project‑specific quality management plans, following up with teams on open and forthcoming items
  • Evaluate alternative quality control methods proposed by teams to ensure they meet company and project expectations
  • Participate in and lead quality‑related portions of project meetings
  • Partner with Operations on trade partner onboarding and quality planning; identify when plans aren't being followed and provide coaching
  • Enforce use of DAVIS inspection templates and prepare project‑specific inspection templates
  • Prepare quality‑focused documents for trade coordination, field implementation, and field quality control
  • Provide technical assistance to correct deficiencies; coordinate with outside agencies for product and installation guidance
  • Support the RFI process, submittal review, and contract/working drawing interpretation
  • Maintain and organize QA/QC documentation to best‑practice standards
  • Manage investigations of quality issues to determine root cause; share learnings across the quality team
  • Educate and mentor project teams on quality tools and resources; partner with Learning Development to build and deliver training
  • Utilize the project management platform and coach teams and trade partners on effective use
  • Visit jobsites frequently to oversee progress and address issues

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5 years of related construction experience, including time in a quality‑focused role
  • Field or operations background strongly preferred (e.g., Superintendent or Project Manager roots) with firsthand understanding of how projects run and how quality issues arise
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to persuade, coach, and influence teams at all levels—balancing technical conviction with collaboration
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction project management principles, including general safety standards
  • Experience with Inspection Management Systems and construction software (Procore, Autodesk Build/BIM 360, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, or similar)
  • Decision‑making, research, and analytical problem‑solving skills, with the ability to take a fresh perspective on existing solutions
  • Ability to travel to project sites for collaboration with project teams
  • Experience with owner‑ or government‑driven quality specifications (e.g., CQM‑C, NAVFAC, USACE, GSA, DGS) is a plus
  • Multifamily/residential or higher‑education project experience preferred
  • Familiarity with the Baltimore market a plus
  • OSHA 30 preferred
