FUNCTION: The Welder III performs work throughout all aspects of a fabrication, welding and assembly shop. This role has the opportunity to lead complex fabrication work, serve as a technical mentor, and prepare for a senior/lead welder role.
REPORTING TO: Shop Foreman
Duties & Responsibilities
Strength and Stamina: The job may involve lifting and moving parts or materials, typically up to 50lbs. The ability to stand for long periods (8 hours) is required.
Manual Dexterity: Precise hand movements are necessary for handling tools, operating equipment and operating a computer.
Visual Acuity: Good eyesight, including close vision and depth perception, is important for detailed work and inspecting finished parts.
Mobility: Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching is required, along with the ability to maneuver around machinery and equipment.
Coordination: The role requires good hand-eye coordination to operate equipment safely and effectively.
Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Machine and fabrication shop environment around equipment such as water jet tables, lathes, milling machines and press brakes. Welding operations are often taking place nearby. This job requires adherence to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.

- Read and interpret technical drawings with minimal supervision.
- Independently set up welding equipment and fixtures.
- Perform complex fabrication and fit up.
- Solve fabrication challenges independently.
- Produce high quality weldments with minimal rework.
- Assist in training junior welders.
- Maintain safety and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all safety rules and shop procedures.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience
- 3-5 years of welding and fabrication experience.
- Advanced skills in MIG, TIG, Stick and TIP TIG welding.
- Advanced skills with carbon, stainless and aluminum welding.
- Plate, pipe, and sheet metal experience.
- Working knowledge of complex fabrication and repair techniques.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1/D1.6.
- Ability to acquire AWS/ASME certifications per shop needs.
- Ability to read drawings and understand weld symbols.
- Experience operating a forklift.
- Overhead crane and rigging certification.
- Able to use a tape measure accurately and operate basic hand tools.
- Detail oriented and efficient in their work habits.
