Overview
We are a small, family-owned construction company looking for a tri-axle truck driver, who will be responsible for transporting a variety of construction materials—including asphalt, gravel, stone, loam, and excavated site materials—to and from various jobsites, commercial plants, and disposal facilities. This position requires a skilled driver who can navigate active construction zones, work closely with our site crews, and maintain a high standard of vehicle care and safety.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Material Transport: Safely load, transport, and dump materials including asphalt, gravel, crushed stone, sand, dirt, and loam according to daily project schedules.
- Site Navigation: Safely maneuver, back up, and position a tri-axle truck within tight residential neighborhoods, active construction sites, and busy material plants.
- Load Management: Ensure all loads are properly distributed, within legal weight limits, and securely tarped prior to leaving any facility or jobsite.
- Documentation: Accurate tracking and timely submission of daily material tickets, load slips, and driver logs.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Keep the interior and exterior of the truck clean and clear of debris; ensure the dump body is cleaned out properly between shifting material types (e.g., clearing out loam before hauling hot-mix asphalt).
- Equipment Inspections: Perform required Pre-Trip and Post-Trip vehicle inspections (brakes, fluids, tires, lights, tarp system) daily; report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the shop immediately.
Qualifications & Skills
- License Requirement: Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A or Class B).
- Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating a manual or automatic tri-axle dump truck, preferably within the construction or paving industry.
- Clean Record: Valid Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card and a clean driving record (MVR) with no major recent violations.
- Site Awareness: Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment operations and a sharp eye for jobsite hazards (overhead wires, unstable ground, ground workers).
- Physical Capability: Ability to climb in and out of the truck cab and dump body frequently, pull heavy tarps, lift up to 50 lbs, and work outdoors in varying New England weather conditions.
- Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and willing to work flexible hours, including early mornings and occasional overtime depending on the project schedule.
