GENERAL FUNCTION:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Director will develop, organize, and implement high-quality YMCA sports programs to enhance the YMCA member and program participant experience at multiple locations across Prescott, Arizona, and Yavapai County. They will have a strong ability to create genuine connections with our staff, members, partners, and community. Through intentional interactions, this position will model and ensure that staff show excellent customer service by having extensive knowledge of sports, Y program areas and services, as well as facilities, ultimately, contributing to the overall success of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. With the guidance of the Executive Director, develops, implements, and manages sports programs, complying with all Association standards and safety procedures.
2. Works with the Executive Director to determine goals, strategies, program innovation, and improvements for the association's sports programs.
3. Works with the Executive Director to develop new programs and expand current programs to meet the needs of the community and the goals and objectives of youth and adult sports programs in accordance with the strategic and operational plans.
4. Recruits, hires, trains and retains all staff and volunteer positions. Supervises and evaluates staff regularly to ensure program quality and consistency. Makes recommendations to the Executive Director regarding staff and volunteer performance issues and concerns.
5. Administers the sports programs within the departmental budget. Develops, manages, and controls sports department budgets. Assesses and recommends budgeting for programming needs.
6. Ensure processes and policies are in place to maintain proper records/department files.
7. Ensures upkeep of assigned program facilities, supplies and equipment. Ensures the physical environment supports healthy living through sanitation and cleaning efforts.
8. Oversee the development of systems and measurements that gauge program impact, satisfaction, quality trends, financial stability, and growth potential.
9. Provides data and reports on assigned programs in support of the planning process of the branch and Association.
10. Identifies strategic collaborative partnerships that congruently align with the YMCA’s strategic priorities as needed.
11. Develops, represents and maintains relationships on behalf of the organization in a professional manner, including school districts and other organizations/agencies related to assigned programs.
12. Develops, produces, and disseminates appropriate program information to promote sports programs to the public and current members.
13. Provides staff leadership for the annual fundraising campaign and other committees as assigned.
14. Represents the branch at various meetings related to the position.
15. Facilitate relationships and regular communication with YMCA branch peers and leadership to discuss space usage, understand branch expectations and communicate program needs for a successful program.
16. Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers.
17. Attend required abuse risk management training.
18. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
19. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations & follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum of 21 years of age
· Minimum of High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, recreation, business, or equivalent, preferred.
· Two or more years of sports program management experience, preferably in a YMCA, other non-profit agency, or school setting. Preferred experience managing a budget in excess of 300K.
· Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development, and fundraising
· Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations. Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
· Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations
· Certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire: CPR/AED and First Aid
· Completion of YMCA’s online training within seven (7) days of hire
· Available to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends

Pay: $48,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
