Job Goal: Provide overall leadership, supervision and coordination of all sport programs.
Qualifications:
- Valid Alabama teacher certification.
- Administrative certification required.
- Minimum of five (5) years successful coaching and/or previous Athletic Director experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of administrative experience required
- Knowledge of the overall operation of an athletic program
- Certification in Athletics Administration preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills; effective human relations skills
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Superintendent and other designees as assigned
Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5)-Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

Essential Functions:
- Establish vision, guidance, and direction for all athletic programs
- Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures working within the confines of the Rules and By-Laws of the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
- Responsible for overseeing all areas related to student athlete eligibility.
- Responsible for screening all new candidates for original appointments as coaches.
- Supervises and evaluates all coaches.
- Responsible for the development of all interscholastic game schedules and approving the publication of all schedules.
- Seeks and finds ways for supporting and financing the athletic program.
- Participates in establishing long range planning for athletic facilities.
- Ensures that all facilities are safe and prepared for competition.
- Promotes athletic programs through news services, social media, websites and other media outlets.
- Coordinates the use, set-up, and schedules of athletic facilities for all athletic contests and practices.
- Coordinates the use of school athletic facilities by groups outside the school district.
- Reports to the superintendent and assistant superintendent of schools and works under the direction of the high school principals to supervise the overall athletic program.
- Develops and manages the athletic budget for all sports teams and works with the assistant superintendent in establishing and coordinating the budget for coaching salaries and stipends.
- Attends and serves as the schools liaison at athletic booster club meetings.
- Ensure all athletic programs adhere to all MCS financial procedures.
- Performs other duties as the principal and/or superintendent and assistant superintendent of schools may direct.
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
Expected Employment: 187 day Teacher Base Employment with additional
53 day Extension including Supplemental Pay
Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.
Salary Range: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year)
