SUMMARY

 

The Sr. Certification Engineer is responsible for developing and executing Seat certification programs ensuring that for both Seat TSO products and Seat Surround Furniture products all approved certification procedures, delegations, regulatory and OEM requirements, policies, and approved methods of compliance are followed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties as assigned:

  • Perform a wide variety of certification-related tasks requiring a complete understanding of FAA regulations and guidance material. Represent Jamco certification interests in technical interface meetings with airline customers, suppliers, OEMs and the FAA, exhibiting mature interpersonal, language, and leadership skills.
  • Communicate with project team members to identify and compile correct work scope, schedule, design details, risks, and other pertinent factors impacting seat certification in support of project proposals. Develop tools/databases and standardized estimate values for future projects.
  • Act as subject matter expert for seat certification issues in a variety of areas, including flammability, dynamic and static testing, design compliance, and aircraft installation and integration.
  • Lead the development, preparation, and documentation of standardized regulatory and certification guidance material. Assist in obtaining FAA approval, as required.
  • Lead and/or support the development of certification test plans and reports ensuring compliance to regulatory and OEM requirements.
  • Lead and/or support, as required, other Certification Engineers and Certification Specialists on major projects. 
  • Assist the Director of Seat Engineering & Certification, as required, in support of Jamco Seat certification projects.
  • Review prototype designs and drawings; identify and communicate necessary changes.
  • Identify potential certification issues and any adverse impact. Analyze problems and derive appropriate solutions.
  • Oversee and assist as necessary with test article build and conformity.
  • Develop tools, as necessary, to track deliverables, testing, compliance findings, to assure on-time completion of certification tasks. 
  • Prepare certification management reports which include current performance metrics, historical results, budget, forecasts, and/or performance trends.
  • Identify and incorporate lessons learned/best practices into organizational procedures.
  • Monitor latest industry issues and documents, participate in aircraft interior industry committees and communicate information to applicable team members.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and legal work environment, adhering to all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of the Company s information and products.


Supervisory Responsibilities 

This job may include supervisory and leadership responsibilities over other Certification Engineers and Certification Specialists assigned to Jamco Seat certification programs.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Position requires completion of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8 years or more of experience in aircraft engineering and certification roles, or equivalent education and experience (18 years minimum in an aerospace related field).
  • Knowledge:
  • General Engineering: Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various systems, goods and services.
  • General Design: Able to read and understand Computer Aided Design (CAD) designs, drawings and specifications. General knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models. Familiar with CAD modeling tools used by Jamco America.
  • Certification/Aircraft Design: Extensive knowledge of EASA/FAA requirements for the installation of aircraft interior system/subsystem components, e.g. 14 CFR/CS Part 25, and OEM Design requirements (Airbus/Boeing Design Manual/Specifications, Standard Interface Documents, etc). Extensive understanding of aircraft terms, design requirements and certification processes.
  • Administration: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources. Able to work in a team environment, able to coordinate projects from start to end, lead teams of certification engineers and accept required roles, responsibilities and accountability.

  • Language: Ability to write technical documents and formal business correspondence. Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, technical data, engineering documentations, governmental regulations, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to groups of customers, other employees, or organizations.
  • Judgment and Decision Making: Able to coordinate with outside organizations, such as program management and/or marketing/customer, to obtain critical data for review and appropriate decision making. Able to coordinate and lead Initial Technical Coordination Meetings (ITCM), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR) meetings.
  • Time Management: Managing one's own time and team resources/time allocation. Able to multitask and work independently and in a team environment. 
  • Attitude: Demonstrate continuous skill improvement. Positive attitude is required.


Language Skill


  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers of employees of organization.
