Join us in our mission to transform lives and strengthen communities for thousands of families, seniors, veterans, transitional age youth, and individuals coming from homelessness in California.


In this role, you will be working closely with individuals who are currently experiencing or transitioning from homelessness. This population often faces significant challenges, including difficulties adhering to societal norms related to hygiene, personal space, and polite conversation. We are looking for team members who can set boundaries with clients, while also being committed to fostering a supportive environment that promotes dignity, trust, and understanding.

Status: Full Time, Hourly

Wage: $21/hr Benefits



Primary Objective of Position: 

The Resident Services Coordinator will develop and implement programs that will serve families and seniors living in our apartment community. This position will be responsible for providing on-site life skills services to special needs and non-special needs participants onsite. Support services are provided to assist the participant in increasing their ability to manage the domains of independent living. Linkage and referrals are provided to ensure the participants are receiving all necessary services. 

 

Major Areas of Accountability: 

  • Assess the needs of the residents via a resident interest survey and personal interviews.   
  • Complete intake assessment and orientation with new residents. 
  • Plan and direct on-site resident meetings, social activities, and educational programs for children, adults, and seniors.  
  • Identify community resources that will help the residents maintain their housing—such as low-cost health insurance, food programs, employment, government entitlements—and assist them with the applications.   
  • Provide onsite life skills training and reinforcement to residents. 
  • Support tenants in connecting to education and employment opportunities 
  • Facilitate and supervise virtual programs.  
  • Develop a calendar and articles for the monthly community newsletter.  
  • Maintain, develop and foster positive professional working relationships with property managers, community partners and volunteers.  
  • Provide a positive atmosphere for the residents and promote community engagement. 
  • Maintain an organized physical space and administrative paperwork.  
  • Assist the residents in using the on-site computer lab.  
  • Outreach to tenants through regular home visits and telephone contacts. Provid“a listening ear” during one-on-one meeting times with all tenants. 
  • Refer residents to agencies; encouraging and supporting follow through.  
  • Monitor for warning signs of de-compensation and crisis, and respond accordingly. 
  • Collect and report data information regarding resident and volunteer programs.  
  • Document resident participation in services and track progress of resident goals. 
  • Recruit and supervise volunteers. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Level of Education, Experience and Skill Set: 

  • A.A. Degree; or pursuing a BA degree or equivalent; or equivalent experience working with
    low income
    individuals  
     
    • Over 21 years of age. 
    • Experience working with individuals with special needs, including mental health challenges and/or physical disabilities. 
    • Familiarity with resources in the county 
    • Ability to develop rapport and build relationships 
    • Ability to interact in a culturally diverse community 
    • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team setting 
    • Job includes some evening and weekend hours and travel throughout California. 


 

 

Physical Demands:  

This position is fully on-site. The Resident Services Coordinator is required to be present and actively working at the assigned site during all scheduled working hours. Remote work is not available for this role. The employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel.  The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, twist, lean, move from one location to another and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job include close and far vision.  Ability to operate a computer keyboard, and lift files and reports. Exposure to glare from a computer.   

 

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be able to lift 25 lbs and travel via automobile 80% and/or plane 10%. 

 

 

Work Environment: 

The work environment will usually be in a recreational room or common area. The noise level is usually moderate but will vary depending on the activity participating in.  Working with the homeless population whether on the streets, in shelters or other places of habitation or services. Exposure to bed bugs or other infestations, unpleasant smells or odors, unclean individuals or homes due to homelessness or mental health symptoms or poverty. Some work will be in a recreational room or common area. The noise level is usually moderate but will vary depending on the activity participating in.
