Land Surveyor Assistant

Job description

All work will be conducted outdoors in various Counties within Central Ohio, assisting a land surveyor with residential, construction, and farmland property boundary surveys. The successful candidate will be reporting to work at an office near Marion, Ohio. We will occasionally set stakes for construction of site developments and buildings. Work varies as dictated by the site conditions being surveyed, such as precise measuring, digging for existing corner markers, cutting trees and heavy brush, setting iron pins and wooden stakes. When driving/travel times to and from the site are 4 to 7 hours, leaving the office before sunrise to arrive at the site by sunrise, and not returning until after sunset may be required. (hardly ever) Prior land surveying experience is a definite plus; however, successful applicants must enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions, be reasonably fit, have a good work ethic, and exhibit a willingness to learn how to precisely measure land and the tools involved in completing the work. Common tools will consist of lopping shears, machetes, buck saw, chain saw, 10-pound sledgehammer, small sledgehammer, tile probe, spud bar, crowbar, wood folding rule, various measuring tapes, plumb bob, two-way radios, traffic cones and safety vests. This is an ideal position is for a retired individual interested in land surveying, working outdoors, and looking to work a very flexible schedule, as weather permits. This is a PART-TIME position. The applicant must show evidence of, or a willingness to, working outside in all weather conditions and be prepared to dress appropriately as the seasons change. References applicable to this type of work may be requested. For your safety; wearing durable long pants, long sleeved shirt with a collar, gloves, and work boots are required while working in heavy brush at all times. No shorts, sandals, tennis shoes, T-shirts with foul/offensive language, political, racial or religious messages, shall not be worn. A background check may be required.
