Your Day to Day

Perform a variety of routine tasks involving concrete pouring and finishing at construction sites. Will work primarily with spreading, leveling, smoothing, and finishing concrete at the job site, along with cleaning and taking care of the appropriate equipment. Journeyman Concrete Finishers also work with concrete set-up including edge forms and stairs. Will work across varying jobsites as an expert concrete finisher.

• Demonstrate an expert level of proficiency in all requirements thru Concrete Finisher 9.
• Demonstrate ability to identify and properly operate and clean walking power trowels and riding power trowels.
• Properly operate and clean depth gage and wet pads, understanding proper placement over beams.
• Properly operate and clean power screeds and demonstrate finesse on a medium to low throttle.
• Properly operate and clean soft cut saws, demonstrating precision in cutting straight, precise lines.
• Understand the proper technique for placing concrete at different slopes for drains or down ramps.
• Understand the environmental effects on setting concrete.
• Know the differences between concrete mixes, and proper finishing techniques with each.
• Understand the principles of adding water to mixes and demonstrate effective use of mid-range and super plasticizer admixtures.
• Know when and how to correctly finish concrete during the curing process.
• Understand the importance of speed with quality during finishing.
• Demonstrate ability to burn a slab without leaving holes or marks.
• Demonstrate ability to finish a cold joint using a power trowel.
• Finish concrete with combo blades, including ability to pan properly using correct patterns to achieve a flat slab.
• Properly apply an even coat of curing agent.
• Apply sweat finishes with finesse; know the patterns and techniques and leave a quality finish without leaving ridges.
• Finish sidewalks with the desired broom.
• Cut straight tooled joints.
• Strip and face stairs with a quality finish.
• Perform sitework with finesse and can finish, with quality, at least 1-2 pan stair stringers.
• Crawl out concrete with speed and efficiency – capable of crawling out 1000 square feet of concrete independently, if necessary.
• Demonstrate ability to create clean and flat edges, with no rolling.
• Accurately establish elevation using a laser rod eye.
• Know how to screed with quality, without leaving holes or humps. Effectively pull wet screeds and can kick-rod with speed and proper technique.
• Vibrate concrete without leaving honeycomb.
• Mucking in order to spread concrete.
• Understand and demonstrate pour out and pump safety, and properly empty out hoses.
• Set up edge and stair forms.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required.
  
• Minimum 6 months previous experience as a Laborer, Carpenter or other related position in the construction industry.
  
• Prior, satisfactory experience with Jacobsen Construction is preferred.
