Staff or Senior Accountant - Job Summary
Jacobsen and Company, LLP is a local CPA firm that has been in business for over 20 years. We specialize in helping businesses, associations, non-profits, and individuals navigate the complex world of accounting and tax. We enjoy helping our clients see how financial reporting and tax planning can enhance their bottom line. In this role, you will help us serve our clients by providing excellent tax and accounting services.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepare tax returns for individuals, businesses, associations, and non-profit organizations
• Prepare financial statements for our corporate clients
• Manage accounts payable and receivable functions for our accounting outsourcing clients
• Reconcile bank and credit cards statements to the client’s general ledger
• Prepare accounting work papers and post journal entries to the client’s general ledger
• Review financial documents and journal entries for accuracy
• Manage and file documents using our digital document management system
Requirements and Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in accounting with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Must be eligible to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam to earn the Certified Public Accountant certification
• Ability to work on site at our location in Des Moines, Iowa.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
• Interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication
• The ability to be discreet when handling sensitive client information
• Have a willingness to learn, be detail-oriented, and apply analytical thinking
Compensation and Benefits
• Base salary based on prevailing market rates for entry level staff accountants in central Iowa
• Compensation time:
- For every hour worked over 40 each week, we will add that time to your PTO
- Typically, staff earn 3 to 5 weeks of extra PTO during tax season (January – April)
- You may take this time as PTO or extra pay in whatever proportions that you choose
• 20% commissions on all collections made on clients that you bring into the firm
• Automatic 10% base salary raise upon passing the CPA exam
