Your impact
We are looking for a Principal Consultant who will be responsible for providing technical direction and leadership for our electric transmission and distribution team for our east coast and Midwest utility clients and provide technical expertise for our energy portfolio clients across the country.
This is a hybrid position in Richmond, Virginia Beach, or Charleston, VA, Charlotte or Raleigh, NC, or Washington, DC with an expectation you will work in our Jacobs office two days a week on average to support local team and client relationship growth. This role will be primarily billable to providing strategic guidance for transmission and distribution projects, being the permitting lead on large, complicated projects, and managing projects. This role will also be responsible for supporting business development and tracking market trends with the Client Account Manager. Additionally, this role is intended to help mentor our and grow our staff and advise on new siting and permitting hires.

The base salary range for this position is $109,100.00 to $165,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Principal Consultant’s duties include (but are not limited to)
- Senior Technical Consultant on projects to provide for the highest quality of review of ecological field deliverables, T&E Species reviews, and local, state, and federal permitting packages.
- Permitting Lead for large, complicated projects or for projects with new clients
- Mentor and develop existing staff and advise on future permitting hires
- Project management, as needed
- Leadership in developing and maintaining procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with laws and regulations
- Maintaining highest quality of client interface
- Work with clients on existing and future Jacobs’ services, including helping to grow our permitting workload
- Work within internal teams to provide guidance for onshore and offshore renewable energy projects, FERC1000 services, and other developing external projects.
- Ability to travel occasionally to a client office, and travel to project sites (approximately 20% travel)
Here's what you'll need
- 15 years of electric or gas transmission line permitting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, natural resources, environmental science, environmental planning, or other related technical degree
- Land use entitlement experience
- FERC1000 experience
- Relationships with key regulated utility companies
